Power Supply Popped?, Trying To Fix My Psu
« on: September 14, 2005, 05:37:00 PM »

Hey guys, my PSU popped and and when I took it out the first thing I noticed was that one of the blue (is it a transister?) something like that was half opened, and that area has burnt marks, such as the fuse and some black box. Do you know what happened?? and what I have to replace??

as you can see, the blue thing has black in the middle, that is the inside of it after it cracked opened. There's burnt marks around the crack. Also in the last picture as you can see the fuse outside plastic cover is burnt and also the that rectangular object next to it has burnt marks. can anyone tell me what happened?

note: this is a 1.6 psu.

From the pictures, the blue object looks like it's a capacitor, which shouldn't be too hard/expensive to replace.

Does it have any writing or codes on it?

Well, it turns out that the blue object is called a varistor, and not a capacitor, as it looked.

I looked for retailers that sold this component, but I couldn't find any, so probably the easiest way to obtain one would be to ask for a broken 1.6 power supply (or even the part specifically) in the B/S/T forum.
