Ok here is what I am doing.

I take the retail HD and I have the power hooked from the xbox to it and the ide cable plugged into it....I have it sitting out of the case in a convenient spot for me to work with it.  Now I have a pc sitting next to it with the case opened up.  I have the pc powered off.  I power on the xbox.....when I see the bix green x I remove the ide cable and plug in the ide cable of the pc, while leaving the power cord to the HD plugged into it from the xbox and leaving the xbox on.  I then turn on the pc while the HD is still powered on and assumed to be unlocked.  The pc detects the drive but xboxhdm is having issues with it saying there is no HD hooked up.  Maybe I am not pulling the cable soon enough?

From what I read I dont have long.  So I will probably need a pretty fast pc to boot up with the xboxhd cd.  I tried plugging pc's ide cable into the drive after the pc started up but the bios seemed to get picky about that and did not recognize it, although linux saw it, xboxhdm did not.  A faster pc will probably help in this situation.

Damn this is getting on my nerves....lol.  I just cant seem to get it at the right moment.

Either I get it too late and xboxhd says its locked, or xboxhd doesnt see the drive at all.  I think it might be the bios on that pc.  Maybe if I tried a newer machine.
