New Thompson Dvd Drives
« on: August 31, 2005, 10:38:00 AM »

I'm looking at ordering a new thompson dvd drive because I've had 3 samsung's and the second one is on the frits, and the thompsons are less than half the price. The person who's selling me the drive (it is new) is saying that it's pot luck with some of the thompson's and that it might not read ritek dvd-r's. I was under the impression that they would read this just fine.

Thanks for your time.  :D

So in your opinion would I be better off going with say a samsung or a phillips? The only reason my drives burn out is because I want to play my backups on a dvd and not a hard drive.

My thompson does not read all the media I put its way.  However, my samsung has read everything that i've put in it.

I would highly suggest getting another one, possibly the 616T.

i've seen modded Hitachi drives on ebay, so if you're put off by samsungs you may want to go that route.

Check around, you can mod the Hitachi's for like $30 total, you just need the right model...AKA the LG model...there is a long thread in this forum about it.
