Xbox Boots To Garbled Screen After Eeprom Swap
« on: August 26, 2005, 09:56:00 AM »

So i swapped eeproms on two 1.6s (softmodded with ltools), and now both of them do the same thing.  They boot the flubber, then after the flubber the screen goes garbled and freezes that way (power led stays solid green the hold time).  It looks like an NES from 20 years ago.  I've moved eeproms around on these before, and not had this problem.

If i change the hard drives to a different one that isnt locked to the mobo, i get the usual service required screen, so the eeproms are working to some degree.  Maybe the ram chips somehow got fried, or the eeprom is in someway partially corrupted?  I ordered two duox2s to stick in these boxes, so hopefully that'll help, but i dont know.  Has anyone heard of this problem before?

there was absolutely no soldering involved, nor was the case even opened for the eeprom swap.  They were both softmodded (without virtual eeprom protection), and i used configmagic just like i have many times in the past.  Everything appeared to go alright until i rebooted, at which point they both did the exact same thing, as described above.  What the hell is that even called?  Not a coma console, because i get audio and video, and i dont think that constitutes as a frag (does it?), and no rebooting or even led flashing!

Well it sounds like you have a locking (hanging) xbox. I have seen this but not sure why it happens. If all else fales you might try a chip the at least get it to boot :)

yes they are both identical 1.6s.  And i know the swap went through because they only boot (to the degree in which they boot) with their respective hard drives.  Any other hard drive and i get the service screen.
