List Of Hard Disks And "lockability"

Ive check this list many times, and i see the "Maxtor 6Y120P0 - 120 GB 7200 rpm 8mb cache" is able to be locked, but the only drive i find in the stores is "Maxtor - 120GB DiamondMax Plus 9ms Hard Drive ATA133 7200rpm 8MB OEM 6Y120P0 - 6Y120P0" now obviously its the same drive, but there is no mention of OEM in this news, does this really matter, will the drive still be able to be locked?

I have a question on the Maxtor 6Y120P0.  I just bought a bare drive, meaning no cables or software.  Are these things necessary when attempting to lock your drive.  I guessing all you need is the drive.  Thanks for the info in advance.

You didn't look very hard then.  Several people, including myself, have successfully locked the WD1200JB (120GB Special Edition w/8MB cache) with ConfigMagic.  Drop the RTL (for retail) from the model number and search the list again.  I should add that others have had problems though.

doesn't matter... OEM really just has to do with the way it is sold... same drive.

Hard Drive @ Tcwo

What about this 1? I'm thinking about getting it soon. It appears to be a Maxtor 120gb 7200 rpm but it doesn't say what model and according to Maxtor's website there are 3 120gb - I might call tcwo and find out which 1 it is.  Thx.

I have successfully locked both the wd1200JBRTL and the WD1200BBRTL.....check out your local office max..if they've got them they're both 149 plus tax with $80mir....call the 877 number if you can't find them in store..you maybe can order  it over the phone.  If that doesn't work....and they're on back order...you can still get one with the rebate.  deal ends on the third!

same thing for me, i was really excited to get the same drive for $40 from om.com but wasn't thrilled when i opened the box to see it was upgrade to the 8meg cache version for free due to the troubles i have seen on this board with locking it sad.gif

oh well, i'm going to take one of the 120gig drives out of my pc and see if they will lock in my xbox.  the 8meg cache one will probably become my new master drive.

got a chance to exchange one of the 2MB cache WD 120's in my pc tonight with the 8MB cache that i got last week and it locked with no problems (configmagic final)
