IBM DeskStar 120GXP drive series, 7200RPM, ATA-100 interface. Model number IC35L080AVV07-0 = Lockable Also i might add OF ALL THE HARD DISK I have installed this one is getting the FASTEST upload speeds!!!! 7000k as opposed to WD 5500-6000 and Maxtor 5000

im gonna safely presume the 4Dxxxxx drives from Maxtor dont lock since theres 3 of us in this thread with maxtors that start with 4D

Got a couple of collegues, that say a drive beyond 130GB, will not work in an XBox. Is this true?

They also say, that you should take a 5400 rpm drive, as 7200 will overheat. Is this true?

As for the answers to the two questions above, if you feel to answering, could you explain what the right answer is and why?

Your first question:

I have a Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Model 160GB 6Y160L0 which works fine in my xBox. Perhaps the limitation indicated by your colleagues is the 137GB barrier present in the IDE controller. Ie. My 160GB drive, reports as 137GB. This is a known issue.

2nd Question:

I have no heating problems with the above drive, and it is a 7200 RPM version. This is not true when it applies to myself and my HD. But other HDs may give off more heat then others.

Absolutely it helped. It solved my contemplation whether I should get a certain amount of time invested to get a 5400 rpm drive the size of 120GB. Which I do not intend to do now.

Next week I will get an Xbox. Now I know what it will cost me. Still not really sure about the Mod chip.....X2 or Matrix.

Locks just fine with configmagic. I didn't try locking with a PC (why do that when doing it from the xbox is easier? They realy should update the hard disk locking tutorial page.)
