Isn't a 7200RPM 8MB Cache drive special edition? Don't think they exist w/out that title. All 8MB drives are labeled JB (J for 8mb cahce, B for 7200RPM). WD1200BB is a non-special edition 2mb cache.

BTW, my friend just bought a WD1200JB and it wouldn't lock. Fun stuff sad.gif

QUOTE (Schmo @ Feb 17 2003, 11:51 PM)
The 120GB 7200RPM Maxtor Drive at BestBuy last week and CompUSA this week for 99 after rebate is lockable.   The model number is L01J100.  It is marketed as a 100GB drive with 20GB free.  I believe it is actually a L01J120 inside the box.

This is the drive kit that I bought from BestBuy ($85 after MIR, 10% discount and taxes).  This drive is fast, quiet and lockable.  No overheating problems whatsoever, it actually runs pretty cool just like the original 8GB WD.

The L01J100 is the kit number but the actual drive model# is 6Y120L0.

Someone said they got a WD 120gb Special Edition to lock?  How did they do it?

Why would one lock and not the others?

82.3Gb IBM Deskstar 120GXP ATA-100 (7200rpm,2MB Cache, 8.5ms) locks fine for me using config magic final.

Wouldn't lock using standard pc method at least for me, pretty sure I was doing everything right as I've locked 4 HDD's succesfully.
