When I was doing some testing installing the router in my xbox i noticed that my +12v reading was actually 11.60-11.70 depending on load. I know this isnt too bad, but I would like to see if its possible to adjust the voltage up a little. I build my own computers, so I know 11.7 isnt that bad of a reading, but I'd personally never use a PSU in a computer that ran less than 11.9v on the 12v rail.

I looked at the PSU and saw a potentiometer on the output side of the PSU, but I dont wanna mess with it until I know what it is for.

Do you know how to use a digital multimeter and what readings to expect. 0v3 will lost due to the load of the meter and slight tolerance differences. There is nothing at all wrong with the reading its correct
The bit about computer PSU is rubbish as well.Since when did anyone building computers use a mutlimeter, soldering iron or anything more complicated than 2 screwdrivers.
Sorry I know its harsh but its better to be honest so put down the meter relax and enjoy your PC Xbox whatever

life is to short to worry about the dumb shit !!!

the PSU is a switch mode regulator thats is regulated by the +5
the +12 is a secondary output that is not tightly regulated
and the current used by the HDD is constant (it's not a constant power device)
so higher voltage = more Heat (from HDD)

11.7 is fine.......

Unfortunately these PSUs have an allowable variance, the only adjustment I have gained with the pot is on the stand by;

To summarize; I have tested the effect of adjusting the pot to find only minimal advancement on the stand by power output but not enough to effect any true change (approx. +/- 0.08 V change) There is also the issue with the tack securing the pot and having to bond it after adjustments. There can be more harm than good when using the pot, it is strictly a user beware issue and I personally would not recommend the tampering of the preset.

This is with the Delta PSU, (I am not aware of any pots on any of the other PSUs)

I will play with this a bit more later when I have more time but the range is good enough for the basic modding.

(A custom PC can range over $10,000.00 while the average cost of a modded XBOX is still under a $1,000.00, when power becomes a sensitive issue then most will adapt a PC PSU anyway)

Hey thats great, but saying all you need to build a computer is 2 screwdrivers is sounds like you dont actually get into modding or anything or the like.
I used much more than just a couple screwdrivers to build the rig I'm on now.

And where exactly did I say 11.7 was bad for a machine? I said I prefer to have it higher.

Hey thats cool and all, we just have different views.

And hell, its never too old to mess with technology. One site I'm on, a bunch of the 'kiddies' there were impressed that a 28 yr old still builds and overclocks computers for fun.
