I'm a newb myself so you can take this or leave it but I've installed 4 chips into 3 different xbox's now(lol...1 bad duox2) and I've had great success with a desoldering bulb rather than the braid...but only after I removed the pins by heating them up.

see, here's the thing: i would just leave it and solder on the d0 point but thats what started this whole ordeal... the d0 trace pad got completely destroyed... so i was/am gonna remove the pinheader and use conductive ink to fix the trace, then get a solderless and go with that... but if i can just heavily tin the d0 wire and use the solder in the wire to fix the trace i will do that.

i was thinking of maybe masking off the area that is screwed up with like 5 layers or so of electrical tape so i didnt screw over any more traces with the solder.

would this work or would the solder just eat clear thru the tape? i can use as many layers as will fit if i need to... i just want my xbox working without putting too much more money into it... and i want it back since i have about 450USD put into it already.

hehe... anyway:
traces are the little lines on a circuit board that connect all the components

thanks... maybe this will help... as far as detecting broken traces just take a magnifying glass or something and look over the traces. if you see any that appear to have a break in them use a continuity meter to test if there is a connection between both ends of the trace.

so with a 25W iron would the solder get hot enough to melt thru 5 or so layers of electrical tape... would i be able to mask off the lifted pad and replace it by feeding some solder to connect the trace?

thing is... im real paranoid about sending stuff like that to ppl.. i know you and him both have great feedback and all but still... BTW how much would you charge to maybe fix the board, resolder the headder and solder the other wires(d0,net,hdd)? price shipped please.

$40 base $5.00 ship flat rate.
It is rare that repairs go over $50.00 (see the really bad ones on my site for examples).
usually the extra $10 is because it needs a 1.6 rebuild or D0 soldered to the via on the MCPx (like #Frame on the 1.3+ boards).
