Xbox Recovery Cd (5849)
« on: July 30, 2005, 06:03:00 PM »

I have a problem with a v1.6b xbox, I tried it all with no luck, at first it was supposed to be a regular softmod xbox, so I did the softmod with no problem, I wanted to test the 5849_recoveryCD to see if it restores the softmod to the regular MS xbox... but when I put the cd in and told it to restore it to factory defaults it died... there was no answer what so ever... the screen became blank and when i restated it the green light comes on one time and then the red light starts to flash indefinitly, and nothing on the screen not even the BIOS animation...

so i thought the cd flashed my bios... but correcty me if I'm mistaking but the v1.6+ the bios chip is not flashable right?? ... anyway since the bios died... i tried to install an alternative BIOS, i used the CHEAPMOD I had on an other v1.6 not b working with the evox_m8 running I rebuilt the LPC and installed as usual... but not even the cheapmod will come up, i mean no BIOS animation still...  :(  I'm desperate i don't know what to do anymore if anyone can help me or has any ideas are very welcome :)

I will post any progress on the matter

thank you!!

That installs the xbox development kit  no wonder it don't work. You need to rebuild your hard drive and maybe it corrupted your EEPROM.

The recovery cd is mint for a Dev/Debug Kit.Never use the recovery cd in a retail xbox. What the recovery disc did was blank your eprom. All you
need to do is flash your eprom to one that matches your xbox.
You will have to buy a mod chip that can flash your eprom chip
to bring your xbox back to life.On a Dev/Debug Kit the eprom is
blank. The recovery disc didnt flash your bios at all, thats why when
you tried to install a chip it didnt work cause your eprom chip
is blank.Let this be a lesson learned.

ok... damn!! so my xbox is doomed!! hehe well I learned my lesson the hard way ;), just i still have a couple of questions:

1. What good is a Dev/Debug kit xbox with an empty eprom? How can you test hombrew games/software if you can't boot your xbox? That means that the dev/debug kit cd is not meant to be useful at all?

2. anyidea what chip flashes the v1.6b eprom? as i thought this eprom is not writable... which means... my xbox died completly?

3. I used the cheapmod with evox_m8, to activate the SST49LF020 you need to break the original eprom path and conect it to pin 7... which i understand disables the original eprom and enables the SST49LF020 eprom... in that case... wouldn't that make my xbox work?

thanks!!

All dev/debug kits comes with a blank eprom because it has no
region settings,it can be used almost anywhere around the world.
But a retail xbox has a region setting to the eprom, can be PAL
or NTSC for example. You can get a Xenuim chip and reflash your
eprom.Or you can install a eprom chip if you have good solder skills.

You're confusing the TSOP with the EEPROM. The EEPROM is re-writable, but the 1.6 does not have a TSOP. 2 different chips.
