Just get a 500GB Hitachi.  I did and its faster than anything ive ever seen.  Quiet too.  I was going to get 2 250's in a box until I saw that I could get a 500GB for the same price as the 250's.  What a drive!

ok so i got a 200gb seagate since i heard those work without the need to switch on/off IDE pins. Well I plugged it in, and voila it worked fine! So I put everything together and the top back on, then continued to turn back on my xbox and i still got the dvd error when i tried to play halo. I swear the xbox gods hate me.

i dont understand how it is though.

I dont have the switch anymore right. All I have are my IDE cables, so whenever I put my top back on, it should still worked. I don't understand, but I'll figure somethin out.

i talked to that guy that did the 2 HD mod in his box that looks real nice, and he said to use ATA100 or above, it has been said this mod doesn't work/work well with ATA66/ATA33. The Cable I have is ATA100 running to the ATA66 M-F-M cable, so that might be an issue.

I was also thinking, could there possibly be anything I can do to tweak the Samsung Drive I have? To make it accept the DVD even though it doesnt like the other 2 drives on the cable?

If not I have a couple of options. The way I did my IDE switch is I only connected the cable going to the Seagate, but it looks like I might need to hack into my main ATA100 Cable, put that on the IN prongs on the DPDT and then the ATA66 wires to their respective prongs on the DPDT Switch, or test out the ATA100 compatability issue and purchase a 4 Device cable from Llamma.

ok i followed that tut you sent to me ferarri, and i tried it with both my ATA133/ATA66 cable, and also my stock xbox IDE Cable and my M-F-M ATA66 cable.

With the ATA133 one it didnt do anything it just hung on the m$ logo, and I pinned out the wire 1 and 57 in accordance with the tutorial. Then wire 1 and 29 for the other cable.

I did them both with the ATA66 now switching the 1st and 29th wire and still get the DVD error. Maybe it just isnt compatible with my laptop HD?

I'm going to try and get a 4 or 5 device IDE cable from Llamma now and give that a shot, and for the mean time try other combinations of wires I guess.

Thanks I'll toy with this before I get my ATA100 Cable. Did You have to make a switch for your setup?
