also, two seagates work well with eachother? Thats badass, if thats the case I can replace my wd 160gb with a seagate 160gb or 200gb and it should work with my stock seagate 10gb right?

i replaced my max 250 with a seagte 160 and got no errors nor glitchs in game.

Im reviving this thread I need YOUR  *POINTS TO YOU* help!

http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=443465

I finally got my laptop hd, and I know it works I played halo2 on xbox live with it a couple times before migrating from my western digital to my maxtor. They get along fine, both boot up. But I have two major problems

First, the modded maxtor doesnt play all of my games, its locks up in the middle of games, doesnt even load them, or at the menu screen when you press start/a it reloads the menu screen. I know these games work cause I transfered them from my other box which plays them fine. Could it be the Maxtor Drive or a IDE issue?

Second, my laptop HD boots up fine and will let me open the xbox live tab in the xbox dash. What is wrong is whenever I put in Halo2 or any other games, it loads but then comes back to dash to give you that "You must have the DVD Remote and Dongle to play DVD Movies". So WTF is going on???

I'm thinking I either need a SPDT switch to toggle on/off the 23rd wire on each of the HDs cable, or change from my 160 maxtor to the 120gb seagate I have in my media xbox since I hear many good things about seagate and this mod.

well i re transfered each game one by one and now they work, except nfsu, but that doesnt work on my other box either. So I guess they weren't working because of data corruption between transfers.

That still doesn't solve why my laptop HD won't play games.

the laptop hd is sitting on the mobo, why would that kill it? I guess I need to get a piece of foam like the others suggested.

ok i just now took apart my xbox to see if the laptop hd/halo2 would work if i unplugged the IDE cable from my maxtor. Well it did work, so it is a IDE problem. The DVD drive doesn't like the maxtor on the cable so I'm thinking about getting a SPDT switch to toggle on/off the maxtors 23rd pin. I don't think there should be any problem not hooking up the laptop HDs 23rd pin, because the maxtor works fine with it connected

Yeah I know what you Mean Leex, I had flakey drives before mess around like that.  Although I got mine working alright untill I had to donate a drive to my pc, But I jsut set it ablaze the other day so hopefully I can get back to my dual hd set up.
I used a differnt switch though then what you are using.

oh really? That sux. Well, see ferrari mentioned toggleing on/off the 1 and 13pin, then he said no the 1 and 29pin, and also people say just toggle on/off the 23 pin. I don't want to go hacking up my IDE drive until I know which one works right. But Im getting anxious.

Yeah man I Hear you there, no sense in wasting a perfectly good Ide cable.  Man I have also heard the 40th wire/red wire.  There is all sorts of differnt stuff to try and what not. But you might also factor in the ide adapter you are using for your laptop HD.  I haven't ever really played with one.  Does your dual Hd mod work on other 3.5's?

doesnt work with my western digital. I migrated from that western digital to the maxtor I have in here now so the other hd will work. They both boot up fine, its just my laptop hd doesnt want to load games. And when I unplug the ide cable to the maxtor hd the laptop hd plays the game fine.

I have

1. Modded Maxtor HD
2. Stock/XB Live! IBM Laptop HD

Both HDs are locked, and both work because I can play on xblive without the Maxtor connected.

Anyways, I just hacked into my IDE cable, and I found out that none of these solutions work. I tried wire 23, wire 1 and 13, and wire 29. Nothing happened, still got that DVD message. So I decided since its fuct and I have to get a new one, to try the very last wire, wire 40. Well it works now.

So Im thinking its wire 40, so I solder back up the other wires, and now it doesnt work. So It has to be a combination of two wires, if not I hope I can find a switch that has 5 blocks.

*EDIT*

NM I think I found it, wire 1 and wire 40. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

ok well i got everything set up. Tested it to see if it works, both drives worked fine. Then I put my top back on screwed it back together, and turned it on again and got the dvd movie error again. I went back 5 times to move wires around, apply electrical tape around the wires on the dpdt switch to make sure they dont touch ANYTHING but the prong they are suppose to be touching. And still same results. Im guessing I could possibly have a defective dpdt switch, although not having anything connected on the other pole could pose a problem possibly, i dont know much about dpdt switches.

guess Ill return it and try again.

Just get a 500GB Hitachi.  I did and its faster than anything ive ever seen.  Quiet too.  I was going to get 2 250's in a box until I saw that I could get a 500GB for the same price as the 250's.  What a drive!

Go to pricewatch.com, I think its still there.
