2 Hard Drives Mod
« Reply #15 on: July 23, 2005, 07:17:00 PM »

ok, well...this really sux. I tested out my other stock 8gb hd off another hd. Formated it, created new drive with xboxhdm, then tested it out on the box alone to see if it worked, it did. so i hooked them both up and, i get the same damn thing. Error 9 all the time.

So does anyone have a list of HDs compatible with other drives being on the IDE cable? I know my WD 160gb is but umm...i dont need a hd that big, possibly they started making them around 15-20, i need somethign cheap i guess.

Let me know when you find it.  I'm planning on doing this mod as soon as I find some IDE cables.

kev and ferrari, the IDE pin thing does not work.

What I did was, went to Frys Retail store(outpost.com) and got me a Male-Female-Male IDE cable. I ran the IDE cable like I normally do, and instead of plugging it in the first HD I plugged it in the female connector on my new IDE cable I got from the store.

Now, the short end connects to the hd in the xbox (stock hd), and the long end connects to the HD outside the box (modded hd). By having the modded hd on the outside enables me to sitch the DPDT switch to the stock hd and also remove the IDE cable to the modded hd, enabling the stock hd to work. give it a try.

Do you have a link to anywhere selling that, I couldn't find it at outpost.com, or I don't understand exactly what it's supposed to be.  If you could post a link, that'd be great.

Thanks

How? actually, I guess I could use another IDE from an xbox, uncrimp the middle connector and add a female there.  Good idea!  Now I just need a female ATA connector, although I still wish I knew where to find uncrimped IDE cable.

outpost.com doesnt have everything Frys has, but Im sure if you do a search on the internet you could find a Male-Female-Male connector, you might be lucky to find it in Reno but if you don't have a Frys there then I don't know where you can get it locally unless a computer store.
