Xbox Won't Power Up - Tested Everything
« on: July 09, 2005, 03:54:00 PM »

Came home to find that my Xbox won't power up at all. The box was working perfectly for several weeks prior, with no changes. Here is the situation:

Xbox v1.6
Spider Chip
Evolution X Dashboard
120GB hard drive

I removed and re-installed the power cord, spider chip, HD, and DVD drive with no effect. I used a multimeter to test the following:

power cord: 120 VAC
PowerOk Pins: 3.3V (per this site)
PSU fuse: 0 Ohms resistance (ie, fuse is good)
Power/Eject button: 0 Ohms resistance when pressed

Pressing either power or eject does absolutely nothing. The HD doesn't spin up, no lights come on, etc. If I supply 3.3V to the "PowerOn" pins, nothing happens. I know the board is receiving power from the PSU because I can measure voltage at various areas of the motherboard. The xbox was plugged into a surge suppressor at all times. Suggestions?

Did you check the transistor as described here http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/1.6_Xbox_no_power.htm

Just tested the "collector" described and it's steady around 4.5V.  I'll test a new PSU as soon as I get my hands on a 1.6 replacement.
