Damaged D0 Point And Trace
« Reply #15 on: July 23, 2005, 02:48:00 PM »

What's flux? I ahve silver-bearing solder paste, should I put the paste on the wire and trace and then heat them up together? When I put my solder tip on the paste some clear stuff comes out of it, is that flux?

EDIT: Pics: http://referralwire..../misc/d0repair/

EDIT; I tried it again and ended up ulling up the trace. Now I think it's impossible becasue there's not much space left for sodlering but maybe not. I'll keep trying. In the meantime, if anyone has a 1.0 or 1.1 mobo with a amtching hdd for sale, I'll buy it.

Holy shit I think I got it. I just slapped that paste on the trace, pointed my soldering iron to it, and put the wire on and it's the strongest hold ever. damn.

Nope, still frags.

Here's the pic of the new, strong  soldering job, but it's still fragging!!!

That white you see is not sodler on hte board, but the flux or wahtever the clear fluid is called.

The trace to the right of the d0 looks like it my be damaged, but I'm not sure how to fix it since the trace goes under the MCPX coul di expose a part of the trace after the damaged area and connect that to the 5th pin from the right on the bottom of the TSOP (that's where the trace leads to on the other end).

I got it but I burned my finger and it's charred skin. Hurt like hell but I kept going. I want my xbox fixed, let's see if it works (I doubt it). Nothing ever works right for me.

EDIT: It's still fragging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Maybe just the pictures but it looks like solder shorts on both places you soldered on the chip now.

IT's just the pic. I did a sloppy job and it's a litte high above the next pin overlapping it, but if you look underneath, they aren't touching. Do the trace sodlers look okay?

you should have got a duox, 10 times easier

Than what? The problem is he damaged some traces round the d0 point. That is no easier or harder to solder to whatever chip you use. Its the same point.
How would you know anyway according to your thread just below here
