Damaged D0 Point And Trace
« on: July 05, 2005, 09:42:00 PM »

If my D0 point is damaged (I can't see a single piece of the point or any copper) and the trace is damaged, what can I do? If there any way I can salvage my mobo or is it permanently fucked. Because as far as I know, points connect one trace on one side to another trace or something else on the other side. This is permanent, correct? Or could I connect whatever component or point the D0 connects to on the other side to the D0 on the other side?

I can't get pics right now, camera is dead and I have no AA's. Can anyone enlighten me?

Just to explain a bit about the xbox mobo, it is a multi-layer board. The VIA point is a means to conect one layer with another layer, damage to the VIA can disconnect more than one layer of the board.

If the trace is pulled or damaged to the point that you can not access the intended trace line then you might have some serious problems. You can route a wire from the bottom D0 to the top but if there is damage to the VIA bad enough then this will not aid at all.

Most of the time you will need to take your time and rebuild the trace and VIA, having a picture or two will give us something to work from and thus allow us to aid you.

Send the board to networkBoy. the repair is much harder than doing the damage in the first place so trust the board to a pro. He will get you up and running again

The big crater is where the D0 point SHOULD be. Can I leave that damaged and just use the alternate D0???

nope.
Once the top D0 is gone you cand to crap till it's repaired.
Check the repairs section on my site.  you will need to connect the trace that leads up to the now trashed via to the fith pin up from the opposite corner from pin 1 on the TSOP.

Do you mean connect the trace leading to the D0 to the D0 on the opposite side?

I appreciate your help.

EDIT::: Oh did you mean like this: http://xbx.networkbo...r_2_highres.jpg ???

How can I expose the trace enough to do this? I successfully got one end on the 5th pin on the TSOP, but i don't want to mess the trace up more. What's the procedure?

i think i merged pin 4 and 5 on the TSOP, but I managed to reseperate them with a razor blade. What's a good way to isolate the 2 pins?

Once you do it a lot then it is rather easy but I would have to say the big trick is patients and know ahead what needs to be done.

I remember back when I first started modding play stations how frustrated I got, keeping your cool saves your mobo.

If you are not comfortable with the detailed work or do not have the equipment to be comfortable then I would recommend contacting network boy.

I will post some pics of a 1.0 that I fixed, maybe it will help you and I'd like to have some validation that I did it correctly.  It was much easier for me becuase I had a second 1.0 board on hand for reference.

Wow, I can seem to tin this trace. I have about a millimeter of the trace exposed, I can see the copper, but I can't tin it. Should I lift it a little?
