Hello, I have an X-Box 1.0, and when I boot it up, it FRAGs and gives error 7. I had just finished putting the mother board back in after taking it out just because I wanted too, and I have cut the red cable that powers the hard drive. I cut the wire becasue i was going to put LEDs on the xbox. I was going to get my power from there, but I decided not too. I have not done anything else too it since it stopped working. I have soddered the red wire back together, but is it possible that I did not sodder well enough so it is not getting enought power. I read that error 7 is from a hard drive timeout. I put another two hard drives in, but it still gives error 7. It will not let me open my DVD drive, so I cannot put in a evolution-x disc. Help! I am out of ideas!

Error 7 usually means that the harddrive is timing out. its getting power though. check the ide cable make sure everythings tight and pluged into the motherboard and back of the harddrive currectly

I checked all the cords. They are tight in there. That does not seem to be the problem. Any other ideas?

Try to reconnect the red wire using just a wire connector, without solder.

Why would that be different? What type of wire connectors do you recomend?

i know a hdd without power but plugged into the ide will give error 7, I had 2 xboxes that would do that. (hard drive wasnt spinning up)

Resolder the HDD power cable, make sure it is a good joint, and check the ide cable. (listen to hear if the HDD is actually spinning up)

If that doesnt work and you've tried multiple hard drives (that have been tested to be good), then replace the ide cable. If that doesnt work then it could be the ata controller on the motherboard.

have the same problem.

i tried other hdd's, different ide-kable, antother dvd-drive. nothing helps.
but the original hdd works fine.

i have searched several other forums but nothing found there, except that the hdd is wrecked but my is new, i buyed it some hours ago.

can some help?

I have the exact same problem with my xbox I am now on my third hard drive as i have sent them in under warrenty to maxtor to receive new ones I have also tried replacing the ide cable and I still continue to get the error 7.
any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated

i also have this same problem, and have already replaced the hdd once. If i get a new motherboad, do you think that would pretty much promise to take care of the problem??

im also having the same problem as all of you and im at my wits end. i took the hard drive and dvd drive out and resoldered my modchip joints and also the ata plug on the mother board and it still gives me a error code 7. it was working fine until i drove 10 min. away to show a friend how cool my box is and tell him i could do the same for him, and then this happened. ive ran across many other problems and fixed them ( and also learned from them ) but i cant SEE any physical reason why its not working and im out of ideas.PLEASE HELP!!!!

I feel like an idiot. The problem was the cord that way giving the dvd power wasn't plug in right even after I checked and replugged it, so the IDE cable would sort of be cut off at the dvd player. I hope that this helps some one.

can a bad disk drive cause an erroe 07? because for the last few days i will get error 07 so i turn it off and come back after a fews hours and it willl work for a little bit and then stop and the Philps rom drive makes bad sounds but the HDD spools up fine and i can hear it going

i have the same problem. i originally used an ibm 80 gig hd. when i swapped it out for a 120 gb, it would give me an error code 07 most of the time, but would boot up if left alone. I replaced it with a 16 gig drive i had laying around and it worked fine. I then bought a new seagate 160 gig drive that gives me error 07 again. any ideas?

i keep getting the error 07 code, too. my question is if i connect it to the xboxhdm and will i still be able to use xbrowser? and if so... now this may sound stupid...is it possible of saving stuff from the xbox harddrive to another regular harddrive? i have a bunch of videos and stuff that i dont have anymore. any help would be greatly appreciated...

p.s. does anybody know what the system requirements are for running xboxhdm? i wanna build a computer just to do hotswapping. i would like to know cpu i need and how much ram i should have. thanks
