its arcing in the psu

open it immediatley and have a look on the bottom of the psu, where the mains plug is. if the board is blackish, then it has been arcing, and its a majoe fire hazard.

in that case, it needs to be resoldered.

that psu does look fine and its a delta (foxlink sp?) were the ones causing the arcing problems...strange problem though...maybe the socket its plugged into is overloaded...damn i have no idea only speculating my friend...forget if you have tried it in other outlets other than the one your using and if you giggle the cord while its plugged in , does the sound stop...

thanks,i have tried wiggling it, but the sound is still there...note it may not be exactly the psu, but one of the other components? because the sound is definately in that area...

if anyone has an idea, or comment..please post, thanks.

Does it crackle all the time? Because mine crackles sometimes when I plug it in, and just like yours, its fine. Shouldnt be crackling tho. Try plugging it straight into an outlet and see if it makes a difference.

Its nothing to do with the Ac input socket problems. everyone always dives for this even when the box is new.
The 2 likely culprits are the Switch mode transformer. Usually louder buzz in standby as no load on the secondary rails or the mains input choke.
You should be able to hear which one it is with the top off and the mains in.

well in light of what CHancer said, there is probably no problem. if it is only quiet, and there is no smell, then dont worry about it.

buying a new psu will most likely just cost you money to find out that the new one does it too.

On the bottom picture there is an input choke covered in white glue. above that still in the pick is another input choke. The ferrite core through these can oscillate and cause the buzz as it can with the switch Mode Transformer which is not in the picture.
Hitachi TV sets do it all the time (Certain Models) we usually use Hot glue over the top and onto the board to stop the noise as its cheaper than a new part. Its not dangersous just annoying

Yes often it can be worse in standby mode due to no load on the outputs.
No fire risk or anything like that though so don't worry too much
