Xbox 360 scalpers clean up on eBay-- Posted by XanTium on November 23 22:06 EST
From gamespot.com:

Ever since the insanity of the 2000 PlayStation 2 launch and reports of online auctions for the desired system reaching into the thousands of dollars, new system launches have become a big event for entrepreneurial capitalists as much as gamers.

A look at the soon-ending auctions this morning showed premium Xbox 360s generally closing at $600-$700, with core systems going for about $500. There were some aberrations; one auction for an Xbox 360 premium system on its own reached $1,750, while a core system auction reached as high as $790.
However, as great as the demand is, the supply of systems on eBay is almost as staggering. There are thousands of listings for the unit on the auction site, many of which are going without bids due to high reserves or starting prices.

I saw one that ended bidding at $10,600 ish.
But obviously the person bidding either typed in the wrong number or it was set up.

some guy at work was claiming hes going to sell his 360 for 10grand saying hes seen all these auctions going for that much. i was like whatever most of these are kids trying to make a quick buck and kill the account. but whatever. im sure most of the  auctions arent legit, i can see 800$ but not over a grand people are desperate but not that moronic.

what hardcore gamer wasnt in line to buy one, or smart enough to pass on the first run seeing all the problems. then what casual gamer is going to throw a grand at a system to just have it a week before the restock comes in.

leaving the people biding on these 360s to deserve getting their money taken when the auction turns out to be a scam.

Well, I sold my premium system for $1200.  I waited in line from 5:30 pm until 6:00 am at Target to get a voucher whereby I had to pick up my system between 8 and 12.  I'd say I earned my $800 profit -- it was f'ing freezing and raining all night long.  If you don't believe me, here's a link:

Well, the guy that bought mine is from an IT consulting firm.  The easy answer for that one is that he's grossly rich, didn't want to deal with the BS of trying to find one in stores, so he reached into his pocket and pulled out a few bills on eBay.  Worked out well for me!   smile.gif
