Xbox Frag
« on: May 17, 2005, 04:50:00 PM »

My friend asked me to keep his xbox for a few weeks, and said i can hook it up and play on it. I hooked it up and played games fine. He has some emulators on the HDD and i even added some ROMs of a few games i had on my pc, after asking his permission. I used flashfxp to transfer the ROMs, i put them all in their proper folders, hooked it back up to my tv and all was fine. I checked the games I added, they worked fine. I checked the games he usually plays and they worked fine. I played on it for a few hours, then turned it off and went to bed. The next day, i played on it again and no problems. Now yesterday I power it up and it gave me a FRAG. The flubber goes on and then I see the "Xbox requires service" screen, and the LED flashes green/red. Now I am a noob when it comes to xbox modding, but i am very very proficient in Windows based PC's, and i know i did not modify anything on his xbox. I only transferred a few ROMs and did not touch, modify or delete ANY other file, nor did i change any setting in Evox except for the IP address so it can connect to my PC. I did not go anywhere near the modchip and the BIOS in it. He is running a EvoX dashboard, the DVD drive doesn't work since before i even knew this guy, and i don't know what modchip is in there. I read threads that had error code descriptions, but i don't see an error code. What should I do? It worked fine for hours and hours and several power off and on over the time of a few days after i transferred the ROMs, and not having changed or modified anything else in the xbox after putting those ROMs in.

Also, if anyone can tell me where i can see this "Error Code" number on the Xbox, please tell me.

I have been reading threads on XS for a few hours and cannot find anything like this, so I am asking for your help. Thank you.

If the "requires service" screen is the one with like 8 different languages on it than the error # will be at the top left part of the screen.

Okay, I hooked it up and checked on 2 different TV's, the "require service" screen is in 6 languages and does not have a error code in the top left corner. Maybe it's just the code that is so high up in the corner that both TV's won't display it, as i hooked it up on a screen with rounded edges and another with square edges. Or maybe it doesn't display an error code cause it's something wrong the xbox doesn't know. Is it possible the xbox just died for no reason, considering all i did was add about 50MB worth of files on a drive that has 8 GB left? And it does seem to make more noise than it used to, and it sounds like it comes from the HDD. Any idea where I should go from here? I can still hear the HDD spin up, but of course that means nothing as the heads could be broken, the data could be corrupted, or it could be fine and not be the problem at all.

It could be a V1.0 xbox. They do not have error codes. Without the error codes I can't tell you what the problem might be. You would have to converse with one of the old-school people here on the scene.
Good luck. I hope you get it fixed.
