Halo Freezes
« on: March 10, 2004, 07:25:00 PM »

Hi. Hope someone can help me with this. I've just recently started playing Halo with friends using Xlink/System Link. It's been great! - when it works that is.  :) I've found that whenever my XBox is connected to my router, Halo would just hang in-game when starting system link play. This has happened most of the time. The times it has worked (about 2 - 3 times), it's worked flawlessly though.

Any tips on what i should look for to fix this? I have the latest Xlink, and have already setup the router properly. Xlink seems to be working fine, it's just my XBox/Halo that i'm having a problem with.

Even without trying to use tunneling software, as long as my XBox is connected to the router, it would do this as well during multiplayer play. I hope it's ok to post in this forum. I was thinking people here would know about networking problems.

Thanks!

Do you mean it happens sometimes in SplitScreen?
If so, I'd make a guess that it's you disk or something other than your network setup dry.gif

Not sure though, maybe some of the networky people will already know about this wink.gif

we would need more details about your router, its configuration, and your network setup.

Thanks for the replies.

Yup, it happens in splitscreen, when i'm trying to play with my bro. I thought it was the disc too, so i borrowed my friend's Halo, but same thing happens. D'oh.

Just a simple network setup. I have a DLink DI-704P router, with two computers connected, and have a cable internet connection. I've forwarded the 34518 an 34519 ports to the computer's IP. Again, the freezing happens as long as the XBox is connected to the network, without even trying to tunnel. When i unplug the network cable, Halo works fine (although no systemlink play  :( )

Thanks!

Mine does this as well...along with tony hawk 4, I think it may be an ip conflict, and naturally the xbox probably wouldnt throw the error if it was...maybe thats why it freezes.  Dunno

I always recommend static ip addresses for everything on the network, otherwise, port forwarding wont work (in most cases).

Also, be sure that you set up xlink's pc as a "virtual server" as this tends to work best.
