I cannot get Links 2004 to work with either xlink or xbconnect. My pings and the people I have tried to play are always very good 29ms-39ms. all other games work fine over xbconnect and xlink.

I have the original game and have updated through xbox live. I even downloaded the new course. My 2 friends that I have tried to use xbconnect and xlink with will not work.

2 people with non xbox live boxes connect fine through xbconnect.

any thoughts guys? I am the only person I know with xbox live so I really can't test to see if my system link would work with another person with the updated Links from xbox live.

I have troubleshot this for days and this is the only logical explanation I can aome up with.

C'mon guys prove me wrong or right!

I am right. I will post the conversation with xbox live support when I am done.

well the conversation i just had online with guy somehow erased itself before I could copy it.

he basically said that only xboxes with the content download over xbox live can play system link in Links 2004 with another box with the same xbox live update.

it was ridiculous. the guys response to the problem was that my friend should get xbox live and download the same content to get it to work. he said no bug fix was in the works, and then told me to call in to support for more help.

ive got an idea for a workaround for all this crap - but u'll need a modded box ... ill need a chat with TJ l8r on tho to see if its workable..

Here's the fix:

UPDATE: we got it to work.

The updated Links2004 default.xbe is located in:

E:/TDATA/4d53005d/u$ (on a Live user HD with Links updated)

Get this updated file and it over your old one in your Links2004 folder on your HD and you 'll be able to connect with updated users...
You should backup your old default.xbe in case you wish to play other people which are not updated though.

Thats the only way I was able to make it work from the hard drive with Darylzero.

If you don't play from the HD, you may try this, not sure if it'll work, we haven't tested it but it DOESN'T WORK if you play from the HD.

On your E drive, go in TDATA/4d53005d and create a folder called u$
Put the updated XBE in the u$ folder. Try that way.

I'll post the updated XBE in the usual places in a few minutes.

EDIT (by TD) - just fixed slashes in the paths..
