Problems With Actiontec Wireless Router
« on: January 20, 2004, 12:59:00 PM »

I have an Actiontec Wireless Router, that routes my Broadband connection (1/2 MBS) wirelessly to my PC, My Xbox connects Via the LAN port.

When I first tried XLink, it killed my internet connection, I couldnt surf and eMule disconnected.
When I shut down XLink, and my internet connection returns to normal?

After upgrading my Routers Firmware and trying a few new things, I am still having issues.

- Internet connection still dies
- XLink crashes (tried safe mode)

EDIT - Few More Tries
I have just got these errors:
(IMG:http://www.baconmusic.co.uk/images/photos/xlink-actiontec-1.gif)

And when I pressed the "Attempt Button"

(IMG:http://www.baconmusic.co.uk/images/photos/xlink-actiontec-2.gif)

I have forwarded the correct ports on my router (34518 and 34519 both on UDP)

Here is the result of my xtest

BTW, the xlink errors occourd when my PC was set up as the DMZ.

After looking at the xtest, it seems UPnP failed, but my router has no options for this?

Will keep trying later...  <

Right then, I have had a few more goes, a few more errors ;) sometimes the same one, I also got an error 91 wich is the UPnP one, but this is definatly installed and running so?

Anyhow, I did a ping to yahoo.com with Xlink simply RUNNING but not connected, this is the result:

QUOTE
C:>ping yahoo.com

Pinging yahoo.com [66.218.71.198] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Reply from 66.218.71.198: bytes=32 time=185ms TTL=247

Ping statistics for 66.218.71.198:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 2, Lost = 2 (50% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 182ms, Maximum = 185ms, Average = 183ms

SO, thats a 50% loss... When Xlink is simply running?

Once Xlink is shut down I get:

    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

Wich is MUCH more healtly?

Anyone any ideas???  <

Another try, with my PC as the DMZ and my Wan IP in my settings at Xlinks website.

Still no luck  <_<

I keep on getting this:
(IMG:http://www.baconmusic.co.uk/images/photos/xlink-actiontec-1.gif)

The "Attempt" button crashes Xlink, the ok button just makes it give up :(

I will try again tommorrow, hopefully someone will have an idea?  <

Only 1 nic ... PC on wireless nic... not a hope in hell ... the reason it fucks up ure internet connection, is that WinPCap doesnt properly support wireless..

The rest of ure config is correct ... I would recommend hardwiring the PC in to the router, and hardwiring the Xbox into the router, or a 2nd nic on the PC ... then it should all be good

OK, the xbox IS hardwired into the Router, but the problem is, becuase its a Wirelss router, it has only got 1 PORT!

Would THIS work:

I have a laptop, if I get a 4 way swicth for my router (more £ to waste!) and plug the xbox into one of the ports and the laptop into another with Xlink running just on that..

So the laptop will become my "xlink" machine, only problem is, it can only run Windows ME :( and the networking on ME is poooor..

Would that work?

OR, will this thing be working with wireless sometime soon

If you get your XBox wireless, by means of a Wireless Gaming Adapter, then you'll be able to keep the PC wireless (but that costs $$$) and work that way...

Yeah, it would work if you use the one available port on the router to connect it to a 4-port hub or a switch (either will do), and that will let you connect an additional 3 devices to the network. Mind you, the PC has no NIC, so there's some more $$$ to spend :/

PC wireless, XBox wired will not work with what you have. If you're router had more ports and was half decent, it'd only cost a couple of $$$ for a NIC and cabling...

Seems like if you want to get online, you've got no choice but to spend a little $$$, or somehow refund the router for something with more LAN ports?  <

The biggest problem with wireless, is that the PC running XLink cannont be wireless linked to the router .. the xbox can be wirelessly linked to the router - no problem - but the NIC which xlink "injects" frames onto (the one you choose when you start up xlink) - can NOT be a wireless NIC ... thats the big problem  <

NO! Dont wanna do that, £100! Jesus, I could get another xbox for that...

NO, cos I could use my laptop connected to the router via Cat5.. And keep my PC wireless..

I wish this wasnt the case :(

Well, when I got it I thought "yeh, its wireless, 1 port will be fine!" and its been fine up to now!

I plan on getting a 4 port hub for my router...
