R3g6 Not Just A Bad Resistor
« on: May 09, 2005, 08:18:00 AM »

ok guys heres the situation
i installed a aladdin xt in a 1.6
worked fine for 2 days then just starded turning on when you plug it in
well i replaced the chip and it worked fine for 3 days

came back again doing same thing
read what that problem is and found out that resistor needs to be 10k
well i poped the old on off went to rad shack and got a 10k 1/4 watt resistor
soldered it on
well tested the ohms and it said 9.80k
thought that might be close lets go try it
well plus it in and it start up automaticly again
go test ohms and it now reads 5.70k
so take the resistor off and with out it pluged in it reads 9.80k again
so thought maybe 2(2x5.70k)
so added 2 on there tested and showed 11.2k
plug it in and it went down to 7.4k
so afteter putting 2x 10k resistors it only reads 7.4k total
i idea what could be doing this?

The resistor is 10K replace it with the correct type. The problem maybe damage to the pads or connecting print (Trace). You do realise that you cannot accurately measure a resistor in circuit as you measure what evr else is in parallel with it. The reading you obtain out of circuit is the correct one.

any idea it woudl still be starting when pluged in then if it has the correct resistor
which traces the ones on front look good and ones on back look good also

If you are still using it as the Bt point for the chip I would try connecting BT to the alternate point. The pictures are in my signature under the Aladdin guide.

This is 99 percent  down to damage in the area of the BT and L1 connection points after fitting an aladdin. Without seeing the board its hard to say the exact problem.
