Anyone Got Xlink Working With Wireless Bridge?
« on: January 01, 2004, 07:26:00 PM »

Have seen quite a few people with the following set up

PC wired to Wireless Router (say Linksys Wireless G router WRT54G)
Xbox wired to Wireless Bridge (say WET-11) or Game Adaptor (WGA54G)

FTPing files back and forth is no problem, can indeed see rooms and games, but just fail to join.

Any kind person who has overcome this problem and can offer some help?

I can nominate my Xbox MAC in Xlink as real MAC but cannot see the game adaptor's MAC (since it is cloning Xbox's MAC), therefore cannot nominate its MAC as bridge's MAC in Xlink

Thanks very much for any help.

Just because nobody replied doesn't mean nobody got it working...

If your XBox is wireless (WET11 or similar) and the PC is wired, you won't need to set any options in XLink's WET11 section.

I've gone over that personally with a user and it worked fine...

Thanks for the reply, yes, my Xbox is connected to Linksys G wireless game adapter, and PC hard-wired to the Linksys G wireless router.

Did the user you helped with configured the wired PC on DMZ?  Any other special config on the wireless router?  I have set up port forwarding (only on UDP), and I can join game rooms no problem, see my local xbox's MAC and remote xboxes' MAC also no problem, but it just keeps on saying no games found (in project gotham racing 2, for instance).

I have my pc wired to my Linksys Wireless G router
and my xbox connected wireless with the Game Adaptor (WGA54G).
Couldn't connect to games with rc2.
Just downloaded kai beta and played a game of CS then R6-3.
Looks like Kai fixed some of the wireless issues.
Cant get bo-xlink to work though :(

hi dfunked,

did you remember any special settings on the user you helped out?  looks like i am not the only one having problem with xlink rc2 on wireless connection.

infra/ad-hoc mode on bridge?
gateway specified on bridge (router's IP?)
anything else special?

thinking about it again, i don't understand how the following set up can work (given my limited network knowledge)

1) PC with network card (call it NIC) hard-wired to wireless router
2) wireless router hard wired to ADSL modem (then to ISP, then internet)
3) xbox hard wired to wireless game adaptor/bridge

now xbox is talking wirelessly to the router how will monitoring packets on the NIC be able to connect my xbox with others?  when i start up xlink, i can only choose my PC nic as the card to monitor.

thanks a lot for any clarification.
