I Was Banned!
« on: March 26, 2005, 08:20:00 PM »

Ok, I modded my xbox a LONG time ago; tossed in a chip and a hard drive.  I had NEVER connected to xbox live before; my dashboard had never been updated, xbox-live wasn't even an option in it.

Two or so months ago, I decided to use the xbox live trial card in the Halo 2 package.  Ok, everything was good, and the bastards hooked me on live.  I went and bought a subscription.  Been playing online just fine, until today.  I cannot connect to XBL, I did the troubleshooter, and it says that my xbox cannot connect due to modification.

From what I've read, this shouldn't be possible.  x2_4980 bios has xbox live connections disabled, so I should not have been able to connect to the service whist the chip was on.  I had never been on live before, so my eeprom and hd should have been married and seen for the first time two months ago, when I first logged in.  I have not changed the hard drive or eeprom in this box.  I did not disable the xbl connect thingy in the x2 bios.

I did put in a new dvd-rom drive, but I have not heard of them checking this too.  Any Ideas?

Was the chip off when you went on Xbox Live?..im having the same problem using Halo 2 I got a new eeprom and hard drive and used a 2-month trial and I got banned this morning. Also, how could Xbox Live not be in your ms dashboard? I thought that all xboxes came with it on the dashboard. My chip is an X2.6...hmm maybe there is a new way of searching hard drives...altough I just put my new hard drive in last night and i got banned the next morning...I don't know...

Did you disable the auto-logon in the MS dash settings? The X2 live-disable patch only works for games, not the MSDash. If you did not have the auto-logon disabled or went to the XBLive menu with the modchip enabled then you will be banned.
In any case, you must have either connected with the hacked bios running or possibly loaded a modified gamesave while online.

the really old 1.0 dashes (3944 i think) didn't have an Xbox Live tab, when you first played an xbl game it would update to 4920 (later some other versions up to 5960 i think is the latest).

If you didnt connect to live with the chip on, this is odd indeed. Im sure ms has some new thing to ben xboxes for (could be dvd drive "marriage", could be checking for anything active on the lpc, could be checking for certain files on the hdd, or could be checking the HDD model number to see if it matches the 3 ones found in xbox, the old 1.0 seagate with the rubber thing, the newer thin seagate, and the WD)

If you changed the hard drive after you joined it's because M$ checks the EEPROM from when you joined against the current HDD's EEPROM and if its different you get banned.

someone who claims to know, said there would be new xbl security rolled out this weekend, but he did not post any details. i think the guy is a xbox dev, but i dont know him(just read his posts)...

however, if your ban is due to a new security rollout, then we will be in the dark as to why you were banned for at least a couple of weeks. honestly though, since we have not see a large number of bans reported this weekend, like we did at the halo2 launch, i assume you were banned for one of the explainable reasons. this means you either played a xbl game with a hacked gamesave or made a mistake and connected to live without realizing.

i am not sure how the x2 bios blocking is supposed to work, but i know i am not convinced it will protect me. people do get banned for making the mistake of signing into xbl with the their xbox live blocking bios running and it happens a few times a week around here.

i'm still convinced that M$ got me by probing my LPC points.  Any retail game I have I play on the retail bios, w/ the xenium disabled.  For backups I use ind-bios, and i never, never connect to live, nor do i ever use M$ dash on the ind-bios.  Yet I still got banned :P

Yes, I always, always, always check to make sure that the chip is off before I try to connect to xbox live.  But, according to Xecuter, access to xbox live is disabled in the bios, so I shouldn't have been able to make the mistake.

Yes, auto connect is disabled in the MS dash.  I don't want someone poking around on my box and screwing with my live account, so, it's all password protected.  Once again, I always check to make sure the light is red on my switch before I connect and enter my password.

As per modified games saves, I've only got one on my box, and it's the 007with Evox, and I never play that game, and never have tried it on live (is it even live enabled?)...

Yeah, this box is a launch box, so live wasn't even in production then.  No xbox live in the dash before I joined...  AFTER I had already modded and upgraded the hard drive like I said above.  MS had NEVER seen this xbox before it was modded.

Yeah, I know how this works.  That's why I'm posting my story, because, as you should have read, I modded and upgraded my box WAY before signing into live.  MS had NEVER seen my box before it was modded.

I never played any games off the dvd; I always put the game in right away and ripped it to hdd.  When doing so, I removed everything dashupdate and xbl related, because I was parrinoid about connecting to MS and screwing up my dashboard...

Well, I'm sure I didn't sign into xbox live with my bios on; but it is possible someone else might have tried to; I've got kids...  But, if Xecuter's xbox live blocking doesn't why the hell do they list it as a feature?  How does it work?  Is it a lookup table that blocks packets to and fro the MS servers?

I'm damn near convinced that it's my new dvd rom drive.  It'd be intresting to know if anyone else has had this happen to them lately...

Ok, more information for you guys.  I've heard tell that if you contact MS about being banned, they get back to you with a techie who tells you to run the network trouble shooter and hit y at the end.  I did so and here's the info on my banned box.  NOTE:  I have no idea what this info means, if anyone does, please enlighten us/me.  Also, if it's personally identifyable, LMK so I can have a mod edit it out.

Ok, so the fist line tells my dash version:  5971.  L I assume would be ping to the xbl servers.  The rest I really don't know.

I have another box, one I use soley for live.  It did have a chip in it at one time, (I purchased it broken, needed the chip to fix it up).  I only use this box for live now, and it is not banned.  It is stock with the stock samsung dvd it came with, and the stock hard drive it came with.  Here's the info on that one.

from what i herd those codes will explain why it's banned more detailed i think, but i'm not sure what any of them means spacificly, cause not all un-banned machines carry the same codes on that screen

From what I remember, but this was over a year ago, if you have a 6 anywhere in the Y code, it means you are banned. There was a huge thread on this somewhere. People would submit their codes to this guy and he would check to see if you are banned. It was for people who were thinking about getting live but didn't want to get it if they were already banned. I will search for the thread and post it here if I can find it.

On another note, I just had a friend get banned this morning which also should theoretically not gotten banned. We got him a new hard drive, new eeprom, and new gamertag. He also has an X3 which blocks live access when the chip is on. He has been playing for roughly 2 weeks and was suddenly banned this morning. I'm not sure on the details of it, but if you say that xecuter doesn't block the auto-sign in then that might have been it. I'll get more info and post later.

EDIT: Found the thread on the XYZ codes.

people do get banned for having softmods as they change the default files, and any change to the default files is eventually checked.

also, 4980 is/was buggy, not sure why, but it wouldn't surprise me if its live blocking support was buggy. you should use 4981.

i you read the readme it also says never to do dashboard or game updates with you chip on. but some dvds will auto update. say the starwars extras dvd

is it a possibility that M$ surfs these boards and jots down the people who post  their gamertags and have modded xboxes, and ban them?

have you given out your gamertag on the scene?

got me stumped...

No that wouldn't happen. There would be no proof that their xbox truley is modified (they could just be saying that) and then you have to add the possibility that their gamertag is stored on a memory card or on a different xbox that they own and the use live on that rather than their modded xbox. Therefore, a perfectly stock xbox could potentialy be banned.

From the first set of codes that you submitted, the y code of 6860 means that you have a LPC mod enabled, or a non-switched LPC mod enabled.  I am guessing that you thought that you switched it off and you really didnt.  By the looks of your code, at the time that you wrote the codes down, you had it enabled!  I will never trust the new switches, they seem a little buggy.  I like the good old-fashioned black on off switches on the X2 :)
