but trust me, it worth the 10 sec waiting to get a clean and shinny joint.

If you are advising a beginner to hold the iron on a soldered joint for 10secs then there are going to be some wrecked xboxes.
Think about it pulling a soldering iron away quickly should not be required the solder shouls stay in a molten state for a couple of seconds after working on it. Ripped traces are the result of low powered soldering irons when people lift of the soldering iron and the solder is not liquid and is half stuck to the workpiece and half stuck to the iron.
If you get burned appearance to the joints with a 30 watt iron then its poor technique not the heat of the soldering iron.
As with anything practice on scrap boards is important . Don't make soldering the Xbox your first job.

I have a Dual 15/30 wattage Iron, and when soldering I (a noob to soldering) warm it up to 30W, then switch it to 15W, so then (i think) its somewhere inbetween 15W and 30W, and it works good for me.

Plug you iron, put it on a safe spot, and let it like that for like 10 min. After that, just try to do a "clean and not burned out" joint

It didn't seem too much of a challenge so here you go. Soldered with a 45watt Weller as pictured. Switched on since 8.00AM. Video Processor chip installed in a Sanyo TV chassis. IF Chip unsoldered with same iron.Time soldered 12.05PM so iron on for 4 hours (Its on all day) Tip size 2.5mm Work not cleaned of any flux or anything afterwards. Left just as is.
I will let you judge beerchug.gif

beerchug.gif . I threw my crappy 15w iron out yesterday after using it to melt the hdd caddie because the screws were threaded. Got there in the end, and probably got cancer from the fumes in the end aswell.

Any chance of video demo-ing proper soldering techniques?
