Jerky Gameplay
« on: May 06, 2005, 11:30:00 AM »

Hi guys, I was hoping someone might be able to help me out. I have an Xbox with Xecuter2. Standard hard drive, Philips DVD-ROM. EvoX dash.

It was working fine for almost 2 years, but recently started giving me loads of disc read errors and experiencing tons of stuttering/jerky gameplay, with pretty much every game. While I'm playing, games will often pause and break up, like they are having a hard time streaming stuff off the DVD.

I bought a replacement Philips drive and installed it no prob, hoping that'd fix it. Still got EXACTLY the same problem, so I guess I can rule out the DVD drive being the prob.

Only downer is I can't think what else could be wrong? Dodgy hard drive? Broken motherboard, etc? Any advice would be really helpful, I really don't want to buy a whole new unit :(

Try changing the IDE cable, could be that one giving up on you...

Thanks for the advice Kos - just tried it but no luck :(

I should mention games off the hard drive run flawlessly, and DVD movies run great too. Something is just going on with DVD games (originals and back-ups)...but I have no idea what.

Dump the cache, delete everything in the X Y Z and E:\CACHE drives.
