Ftp Problem
« on: March 09, 2005, 09:22:00 PM »

I am having a problem ftp'ing to my xbox.  My xbox can go online without a problem (I get the RSS feed, and I can go on KAI).  But I cannot ftp into the xbox.  I am using a wireless xbox adapter, with dhcp enabled.  In terms of the ftp program, all I have to do is ftp into the xbox ip address with xbox/xbox as the name and password on port 21 correct?  Can anyone give me some tips?

running ipconfig from a command prompt I get the following PC settings:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.101
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

on my xbox, I have DHCP enabled, and it has an IP address of:

192.168.1.102

I am not sure how to get the gateway settings with DHCP enabled. Any other info that would be of help?

Edit: I forgot to mention I am using ftp surfer on my PC (which worked fine in the past before I switched to the wireless setup), but I do have flash fxp

You're using a Linksys router, right??

What dashboard are you running on your box when you try to FTP ?

I am using the linksys wireless 54g router.  I using avalaunch (latest version).  I am really stuck, I cant seem to figure it out.  I disabled DHCP and set my static settings.  I was able to ftp into it, but I always lose connection after 2-3 minutes and my xbox locks up.

I had that problem long ago. I don't have a whireless router though, But all I did was upgraded my firmware version. Try that, and if it doesn't work, try downgrading it to a prior version.

Also, whenever it connects, do you experience slow transfer speeds when FTPing ?
You have to set your IP addy in your ava configuration file. And DHCP shouldn't make a difference for FTPing. You should have it enabled. Also, setting your network card to Duplex could bring some problems with transfer speeds.

PS: Any FTP program should work for that matter. I use an included FTP command in Total Commander, wich is a wonderful file administrator for windows.

I had a very odd problem like that once.  I have a MS Wireless Router (piece of s***).  In the living room I have it connected to the router with some patch cable, and in the bedroom I have a Linksys Wireless Game Adapter connected to the Game Cube and another XBox.  But basically, it would only let me FTP to my modded XBox in the bedroom (on IP 192.168.2.9), but not in the living room (same IP).  Oddly when I reinstalled the OS on our file server it started working in both rooms.

I am using the latest version of kai station (the firmware for the router made by the people at kai xlink, could that be the problem?

When it is connected to the internet, it seems to be going at a pretty high speed, but as it stands now, I cannot ftp into it at all.  As for the DHCP settings, I was under the impression that if it is enabled it doesnt matter what my settings are, I thought that it set everything for me, is that incorrect?  Where would I check to see if my network card is set to duplex?

That doesnt sound to promising, I really don't want to reformat, but I guess if all else fails...

You would have to set the IP address that your router is giving to your xbox on your dashboard configuration file. That would set your xbox in to a "Listening" state, and it will be open for you to FTP in and out of it.

You are correct when you mentioned the username and password, also the port is fine.

I believe that what you're missing is the setting up on the config file of your dash. For example, if you're runing evox it would be evox.ini, if you're running ava, I think the extension for the config file is .xml I don't quite remember that one.

If I have it set for DHCP, would I have to reset the xbox ip address everytime?  As for the listening state, which line in the evox.ini corresponds to that?  I only know of that one ip setting and if I change that all it changes is the xbox ip address, which wouldnt even get set if DHCP is enabled right?  Sorry for all of the questions, I am just trying to understand what settings to change and how they will affect it.
