Help Connecting Xbox To Dsl Modem
« on: December 19, 2004, 04:53:00 PM »

I recently got dsl and i wanted to play xbox live. According to my dsl provider, my modem is configured and all i have to do is plug my xbox in to my modem and i should be all set. I did that and nothing happens, my dsl modem ethernet light doesn't light up and the light on the xbox on the ethernet port doesn't light up either. My xbox says to check cables. I'm using a system link cable/crossover cable, and i know it works. What am i doing wrong?

Your using a crossover cable(xbox cable), that's whats wrong....For modem to xbox connection you need a patch cable, they usually come with your modem...Actually patch cables are more popular then crossovers

if its the MS system link cable it is a crossover cable.

just get a regular cat5 cable and it should work fine.

i made my own, the cost for a decent length cable(25 ft i needed ) is rediculous, for the cost at best buy or radio shack, i went to homedepot and bougth 100 feet of cat 5 the tool to crimp on the connector and a 10 pack of connectors and i have 75' left if i ever get a ps2 or another pc or something
