This doesnt make sence, if a few people have larger hard drives and haven been banned yet, what makes them different?

It may just be a matter of time! We will just have to wait and see.

You have to admire MS for the marketing skills, this is going to sell a load of new xboxes.

I have been using chipped xboxes since the early days of chipping, so I can really grumble that MS are trying to stop us. I am just thankful it is just the box that is banned and not the account.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is just a case of the dash scanning for HD type etc.

Regards All

Lucky I have my friends EEPROM as well. I screwed mine up a few weeks ago and had to borrow his to embed into a BIOS to re-flash mine.

Whew, back from a good 5 hours of sleep, 1 hour till i go to get my copy of halo 2.

I mean, it is sort of obvious now that M$ was looking for a way to get back at the modding scene, so they now have a game that both modders and nonmodders alike will buy: Halo2.  I think it's given that they would put extra protection into this new game in order to crack down at all the people that have been so considered "cheating them" for the last 1 or 2 years.  Evil huh?  I'm still all for the larger hdd theory, where if M$ detects anything bigger than the original 8gb stock hdd, you'll get banned...

M$ probably doesnt need the service of the modders any more with h2... a good portion of people buying halo 2 will subscribe new to live, so they are going to give us the shaft. yay shaft!

edit: illusions- that would be perfect to support the large hd theory... try and convince him to sign on!

Well, I just got a mod warning/ban. It didn't specifically say ban, but it might be.
Here's my setup:

stock 10 gb hd and a 40 gb hardrive with hacked programs (i swap between the two)
flashed split TSOP with iND BiOS 5001 and standard ms bios

Since I highly doubt MS could detect a split TSOP, I must assume they are scanning files on hard drives. Also, I haven't played Halo 2, I just tried to sign in at the MS dash. My stock drive should have been clean, but I guess I'll need to search again for non stock files. This really sucks. I was looking forward to some H2 live action, but that's not going to happen for a while

EDIT: Just for clarity, I ALWAYS log on with the stock drive and the standard MS bios.

you should break that long ass paragraph into easier read multiple pararaphs.

also, you arent the only one who thought that 11-9-2004 would be a B-day for modified xbox live users.

regardless... it seems to have been, and id like to know the setups of the modded peoples box's who were luckily not banned yet

i wasn't banned with a x3 and a 120 gig maxtor, but this xbox has no live account, my bro got banned with a 2.3 lite, a 40 gig maxtor, and a live account. Solution -> account on mem card.

anyways most people saw this coming, were hoping it wasnt really coming or were in denial, and now we are not 'scrambling' to find a solution, we are trying to work around this.

Grow up, no one really cares if you so called claimed they were gonna do a mass banning the day it came out. "I told you so" thats middle school acting right there. We all are trying to figure out what is causing the problem and thats all that really matters. Not whether you told us this was going to happen. I havent been banned yet but I havent gotten my halo 2 yet so i'll find out for sure tonight. If I get banned, i'll play for free on xbc so either way, theres a way to play online.

The bans arent halo 2 specific. Like someone who posted before, i got the mod error through the dash. My mod chip was definately turned off. I have a 160 gig western digital. Also earlier someone said that xboxes come stock w/ western digital. This aparently doesnt hold true for all, mine had a seagate drive in it.
