Nov 8th, Xbox Live Ban Day
« on: November 08, 2004, 05:49:00 PM »

It looks like that with tommorow being Xbox's big day they are going to ban as many people as they can.

I have already seen a couple people post that they just got banned.  I would only assume that I will see more.

I was just banned too.  i was even playing on live earlier today.  I have never once had my modchip on since I got live.  I lost all interest in everything else as soon as I got live since it was a way for me and my younger brother to communicate.  So I definately have not been on live once with a modded xbox.

I have a 200GB drive in there with a single f partition and an xecuter 2.3b lite.

I repeat that I never once went on live with the mod chip enabled.  And I just turned on the xbox and was unable to log on.  I am getting the Modified X Box Error.

EDIT:

Ok people we are over 100 posts with the same thing being said over and over again.  We are all getting banned.

To help the guys that eventually help us, lets try adding some more info to the "I'm banned post!"

Stock hard rive?
What type of hard drive
What size drive
Day and Time Banned
Bios name/vers
Modchip name/vers
What game you tried to play
how long it took the ban to enforce
any emails sent from MS
First time ban?
does you username match your gamertag or do you use your gamertag in your sig
etc.

The quicker we get to the bottom of this, the quicker we can find a work around.

Thanks
datapusher

EDIT

Working on the current hard drive swap theory:

Looking for anyone who changed their hard drive before xbox live came out and has been banned.

Looking for anyone who changed their hard drive before signing up for live and has been banned.

I'll answer all the questions I think people will ask to make this as helpful as possible.

I have never been banned before.
I have never had the internet connected when I had the chip on.
The chip has never been turned on since I started using live.
I have been on live for 2 months.
I have an xecuter 2.3blite with the X2 4981 BIOS
I have auto sign on off
The only save games I have are from games that generated them both from hard drive and dvd games.
I have never tried to play a live game off of HD

that's all I can think of at the moment.

I hope this helps some people.

And Again I played for about 9 hours yesterday and 2 today.  I turned off xbox for about an hour to do dishes and pay bills and turned on to get the error.  Guess I shouldn't be to concerned about waiting in line tonight to get that thing that shant be mentioned.

I havent even enabled my modchip for a few weeks. 2 hours ago I was playing some SFAC on Live, watch some tv, try to sign in again and it says there is a modification error sad.gif

I posted this in another topic lower down. If I purchase a new Xbox just for Live, will I be able to reactivate my XBL account without having future problems? Or do I need to also buy a new starter kit?

I was banned too.... Not too sure of the reason though, as most people here.

So I am guessing that going about the usual routine to unban an xbox would be pointless untill the gurus of this site figure out how we got banned.

Buying another xbox just for live is just not feasable at this point.

Thanks for the report and sorry to hear your bad news. There are lots of folks in similar boats and hopefully we'll be able to make sense of all these recent bans soon.

But this may help us figure out what has caused it.

What game(s) were you playing yesterday for 9 hours and today for 2?

mechassaultall day yesterday.

today was counter strike.

When i powered off and came back, i switched to mechassault and the problems started.

I am willing to answer any other questions that may help narrow this thing down as i would like o get up and running asap as would most people.  I have a feeling though that this may be a big issue.  if they did plan this to coincide with the launch of that game, they probably have been working on this for a while.

i got on to play battlefront tonight, never been on with chip on and i am now banned.  too bad, i added the harddrive partly to see if i could do it and mostly to bypass the DDE caused by MSs crap DVD player.  i was just about to order the year subscription kit, they just lost a customer.

I just desoldered the mod chip and put back in the stock drive.

If someone wants to donate an eeprom to see if this works, it would be appreciated.

Afterwords I am going to document the process completely to see what happens.

hopefully we can figure out how they are findingout and geta  workaround.

So if anyone wants to donate an eeprom, that would be great.

im gonna hop online and just leave it signed in to ms dash for a while, and post back after midnight if im able to log on with halo2, i have never been banned before, i had 2 xboxes and was replacing a chameleon with a X2.6 and messed up the board a lil and hadnt had the time to play with it, so i just threw the chameleon into a box i used for live only for over 6 months, also swapped HDD way after gamertag was transfered and have always had my live account on the xbox

ok im signed into ms live dash, ill leave it for an hour or 2 and then see what happens when i get back with halo

well doesn't seem just a little odd that all these people (at least 20) are being banned tonight?  Especially since not one thing has changed on my xbox in 2 months.  they know that there are going to be a ton of people all on xbox live in the next 24 hours.  It could be like Direct TV's ECMs whenever there is a big PPV event that will draw a ton of people.

I am just suggesting an idea.  I have no proof, but damn it just seems really odd that there were a few people banned when I logged on here and as i check around the forums more seem to be getting banned as well.
