When I fire up my xbox using the eject button to bypass my x-chip running 1.1, I go into the MSDASH and hit the XBox Live tab. I select new account, the green wheel spins and I get "your xbox needs service, please contact customer support".

Not sure what that means. Do I have a bad install of my chip, or have I been banned by some xbox live aware game I have run from my hard drive.

Sorry if this is a repeat, but I wanted to know as much as I could if and when I call MS to find out what the issue really is.

Any suggestions?

Well, can at least someone let me know if that message means I am banned? or does it mean my hard drive is unlocked? (even though my tools report the hard drive to be locked).

One thing I noticed this evening on playing Burnout3 is that on 1.1 BIOS for xchip I get notified of an invitation to play on live, while on M8 BIOS I don't.

I wonder if Burnout3 was talking to Live, even though I don't have an account. Or is that normal behavior for Burnout3?

As I said earlier, I don't have a Live account. But, I purchased one recently and would like to get it set up but get the "contact customer support" screen when I try it.

first things first. DO NOT RING CUSTOMER SUPPORT.

Now we'll move on. Oh and your not banned. You cant get banned when you dont have an account.

I know exactly what this error means. It is when some of your xbox dashboard is corrupt/missing/changed

Probably most likely the files in the xolive folder in the C drive.

So what you nead is a nice clean new dashboard.

Thanks alot.

Based on your advice, I downloaded the original msdash from a known good source. After backing up mine and restored with the new one, I could connect to Live and sign up.
