Last night i was play Island thunder and Espn football and everytime powered the xbox on and off, My xbox would say that I need an update.  It would go to that downloading screen with the green bar then my xbox would go back to the dashboard.  Nothing changed or nothing new and it did it everytime.  This is being done on an original ms xbox hard drive with no mod chip at all and no exploits.  (I run exploits on my bigger HD)  Possible HD scan?

Updates in games have been common since day one. It is not a HD scan.

But I've just thought... do they check if the Xbox was booted with the modchip, or just if it's on at the time? I ask this, because is it not possible to switch the modchip off *after* booting up? That would mean that (theoretically) one could play games on Live from the HDD. Maybe.

If not, just pretend I didn't post anything wink.gif

The modified BIOS would have already loaded at the bootup, and Live would detect this, and ban you.

So, what did you post again?  tongue.gif

based upon my own tests and what psycho_penguin has tested.... I have reason to believe that no XBL traffic except that to TCP/UDP 3074 will get you banned.  So it can kerberos authenticate and dns query all it wants, you shouldn't be banned.  Of course the way to prove this would be to solely block that port on your firewall and run splinter cell and hit the live dash, etc with chip on.  it won't be able to sign you on to live but its other packets should get through.  Hopefully i'll have time to test this myself but someone feel free.

If I make a backup of a "Live Aware" game, can I still play it without getting banned?
Yes. When you choose your profile for a game, do not select your Xbox Live gamertag. If you do, you will connect to Live, and will be banned if your modchip is on. So, just make an offline profile for the game.

what if the network cord is UNPLUGGED, modchip on, and you select your xbox-live profile?

thanx

you will not be banned...
you need to connect to live server with mod on to be banned.  Currently they do not "flag" your xbox offline then send a ban signal once you connect.

Yes, you can still use your account on the web.

(Curious why you just didn't just check yourself..)

I have  a switch and had been playing Crimson Skies online with the modchip turned off for some time and i've never updated to live 2.0.
Randomly last night i tried to play and it went to the dashboard and said checking cables, connectint, there is a problem your xbox may have been modified. I figure i'm banned now, what went wrong? I have xboxdash.xbe on my C drive and everything from a default slayers install.

You connected with Live with modchip on. It happens..

Did you use the same profile name in Crimson Skies that is the same as your gamertag?

Time to get new EEPROM.

Wait I don’t get it? Did he play his copy on live or was it a real game? If it was a copy, why did it accept it for a wile. And how could he be so stupid to play online with a copy?

If i play Xbox live on my modified Xbox, and i get banned in the future, can i then buy a new Xbox and use my Xbox live account on that Xbox, or must i buy a New XBox live kit also to use om my new Xbox, and just trash my old Xbox live kit?

You can use the gamertag on the new Xbox. Use "Account Recovery" in the MS dash.

So can I play live with my modchip on? Does live ban if its on? Or just not connect if you have it on.
