Jtag Kinect Update
« on: March 01, 2011, 01:36:00 PM »

Not sure where to post this so I will post in the newbie section

I just bought a Jtag from BoNg420 a couple weeks ago. I have everything set up except I want to use my kinect.

It has Freestyle dash 2.0b Rev2151
If I go into System Info it says dashboard 2.0.12611.0

I don't know anything about the Jtag but thought he said it has the kinect update.

When I plug in my Kinect it says I need to update.

Is this normal? should I update it?

Thanks for helping the newbie out.

I believe that should just be an update for avatar support. Is your R6T3 removed? Shouldn't be a problem if it is. Just make sure you aren't connected to LIVE, it might be trying to update you to the 12625 kernel.

This is what he has listed.
Brand New 60gb Jtag Consoles With Aud_clamp, R6t3 Bridged, Lt+v1.1
Also I did the AUD clamp JTAG wiring to these
These include:
JTAGged Console with latest freeBOOT 12611 and LT+ flashed to Liteon drive
Dashlaunch installed
Xexmenu installed believe its set to hold to B to boot to this
Boots to Freestyle Dash 12611 with avatar and kinect update applied, hold RB + RT to boot to NXE
NXEtoGOD installed

I just want to make sure if I apply the update the Kinect asks to do, I don't end up with a real expensive paperweight.
I have the ethernet cable connected but I disabled xbox-live and disabled creating an account.

Thanks

If you install the official 12611 update it will just install the Avatar files only. No you dont want to install the newest 12625 that came out a few weeks ago.

extract the 12611+avatar update to a thumbdrive, it simply copies items to the hard drive i believe.
simple and safe.
reboot, your hdd is simply missing avatar files.

So if i'm correct I can use the files from the thread below and put them on a thumb drive and I should be goo to go. (the 12611 files about 100MB)

Correct?

Couple questions (Trying to understand the difference)

What would be the difference just clicking update when it prompts me when I plug in the Kinect VS using the files from this post. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=4783046

Just trying to learn the difference between the do's vs the don'ts. LOL

Correct. The difference is that the update on your console could be trying to update to the latest kernel that is not available for JTAGs, which is the 12625 kernel. The files provided are from the 12611 kernel and are for the kernel that you are currently on.

Ok, Tried it and nothing...

Usb Drive is fat32.
I coppied extracted files over to the xbox and powered it up. (It scans the Usb drive the first 5 seconds of powering on but then it just boots into FSD. I tried copying it all different ways to the dive with no luck. SystemUpdate12611\$systemupdate\all the files, $systemupdate\all the files, then just the files on the usb drive.

Is this because it thinks it is already updated?
But then why does it say I need to update when I plug in the kinect?

What do I do now?

Thanks

I know nothing about Jatg's and 360's in general for the most part.
But could it just be some drivers or something that it wants to install instead of a new dashboard version?
Just a guess from someone who don't know.  sad.gif

Don't know if it really matters but the kinect I bouught was a couple months ago. My guess would be it don't know about the newest update. But I don't want to make a expensive paperweight by guessing if possible.  biggrin.gif

Any other ideas?

Thanks

All kinect hardware is exactly the same, can't be that.
try a different thumb drive, try running diskpart and doing a clean and repartitioning.
try 12611 from another source.

Hi, I did, just $systemupdate folder in root still nothing. I even put it on multiple flash drives & put on a cd with no luck.

Looking for another place to get 12611 files.

I found on another site for the 12611 files but when I unzipped it, it has default.xex outside the $ststemupdate folder. The other one did not.

The original one I was trying was from xbox.com so I would of thought it would be the real deal.

Should I try the other one with default.xex & the $systemupdate folder?

Thanks again

Just tried the other files. no good either. It gave me a system error. I sh** myself cleaned myself up and rebooted and it booted back up so im back to trying to get a kinect update that works

Try copying $systemupdate to the root of the HDD, and no that's not where the update is stored. Use the official Microsoft update.

Go into the Kinect Dash, go to to the "Welcome" menu and select the "XBox 360 Tutorials" tab; do you see a girl in a yellow dress waving?
