you might of done a bad kamikaze and drilled to much.

Usually you can tell if a kamikaze is successful or not by doing the following

With the drive out of the console look for three things.

1) Eject the drive and then close, if this works then check next
2) after closing the drive the laser should move and the laser should flash red
3) after laser moves the spindle motor should spin for a second after the laser finishes moving

If all three of these function you most likely have done the kamikaze successfully.  If these all work, then you might want to double check all ribbon cable connections and it could be you killed your laser or need a new one ironically.

In some cases that I have had:

The spindle motor won't run cuz there is issue with the optic.  Once I replaced the optic the spindle motor ran correctly.

Try the motor you ordered first.  If you have the very same result - then replace the optic.
