Could be one of the transistors shorted on the ROL board.  Also check inside the respective ports.  Check on the pins.

First thing to try.  Take everything out of the cage.  Then try ROL power on.  Could be something grounding against the cage.

Although ... I guess you said it did boot up Xell.

Got another ROL board floating around?

You could test the one for a short.  Couple of transistors that could be culprit

Also - good back and double check the connections on the R -jtag

Checked all ports - no pins bent or otherwise shorting. Today it seems a little different in that I can turn it on with the RF board attached, and turn it off as well - however once it turns off it doesn't come back on again unless I remove the RF board. It also boots into the dash with my JTAGed flash, but I can't do any further testing as the remote isn't synced (damn kids keep nicking my controllers to play multiplayer on their 360)

Can boot into Xell every time by pressing eject, and it even recognises the RF board when I plug it in (reports USB device on bus 05 or something similar), though I can't sync a controller to it. Still no lights on the board either. I've swapped boards with a scrap RROD 360 I have and still no joy.

Soldering is spot on, had a look at it under an illuminated magnifier and can't see any issues, likewise it boots without a problem so not sure where else to look. Might take some pics and upload to the TX forums and see what they say. I'm leaning towards my Falcon having finally died a weird death though.

Did have a look online and found someone with a similar issue, unfortunately no solution though

No  ... your Falcon isn't dying.  You are being too grim.

Might just be a transistor that is starting to fade.  Maybe mosfets on the 5 volt rail.

Like I said earlier; could also be a transistor on the ROL board

Could even be an issue with the brick.  Using a 203 or 175 with your Falcon right?

Tried two different PSUs, one 203 and one 175 - same issue. Changed ROL board, same issue. The fact it powers on initially but with no LEDs and then stays on if I disconnect the ROL board is weird - surely if I had dodgy MOSFETs it wouldn't work at all?  The really annoying thing is the JTAG works great, it is *really* frustrating

Sorry to post here with no real solution, but I've experienced something similar to this.

In my case, I had a fully functional Zephyr that had been Jtagged for months, before the ROL decided to pretty much quit functioning. It did nothing but turn the system on and off. Nothing else worked with it, including controller syncing. I found it very odd that it would turn the system on and off, but at the same time, display no lights at all. Swapping ROL boards did nothing either.

Checked soldering, all looked fine. But of course I re-soldered to be sure . After re-soldering, voila! It worked right away........for one boot  >.>  as soon as I shut it down though, the next few reboots varied between lights on and off. It was the oddest thing I had seen yet come from a Jtag.

Like I said, I'm sorry for no real solution, but I guess if I learned anything from what happened, it had something to do with the soldering. I can't imagine what exactly changed during re-soldering, but it obviously did something.
