Recently I had a console brought to me with RROD. The secondary error code was 0021 and only red ringed after a usb was plugged in. I contacted the customer and they informed me the drive was flashed but did not play any of the newer games and so I concluded the fw would need updating to iXtreme LT+ 3.0.

I got my computer ready and JungleFlasher, connected the cables to the drive and used the 360 to power the drive. I kept trying the drive half open trick but the 360 just flashed everytime as though the drive was not closed and Jungle Flasher could not see the drive. After doing this a few times the console reset itself when I unplugged the power lead from the disc drive. Ever since it shut down the console flashes the power light (as though no drive is inserted or the tray isnt closed) when I power it on and the drive doesn't do anything when I press eject on the console.

I have manually closed the drive (by dismantling and putting everything back to default), same thing happens, I have ejected the drive by pusshing the bar to lower the motor and pulling out the disc tray WITHOUT any force and again the same thing happens.

The PCB has previously been cut and soldered by whomever flashed the drive prior to this repair which as far as I am aware this was a few years ago as they are not on the latest iXtreme.

Does anyone have any ideas? Replacing the drive with a Phillips drive enabled the console to power on without flashing, and ejects and inserts fine. Obviously this drive will only play DVDs not games.

I have ordered a CK3i and Probe 3 arriving this week and already own a CoolRunner and NandX. If worst comes to worst I will CR and get the DVD Key from the Motherboard to put into another LiteOn however I am hoping to avoid this as even though I am pretty adequate at soldering I prefer to only do it to my own consoles to prevent irrepairable damage to anyone elses.

Thank you very much for reading and any help would be greatly appreciated. I either need to extract the DVD Key or just get the drive into a state where the console ejects/inserts fine and I can flash it when the probe arrives instead of the manual tray half open method.

Is this a Phat or Slim Lite on ?  That matters

If phat - repair the cut traces by bridging some way.  Then PMT probe MPX01.

You could have easily home built the probe instead of buying.

On the 0021 - that usually points to an issue with the Gpu.  And 0021 usually presents with 3 rrod - not 1 rrod.
You might want to double check your error codes.

Even check on the ROL board.  Make sure all the LEDs are in place and not burned out.  I have found non working LEDs on there before.
