You say you have an Elite .... so that should be a Jasper Motherboard.  One of the most trouble free Phat 360's

First thing  ... try a 360 A/v cord set.  Not the HDmi port.  There might be an issue that developed around the HDMI or delivery to it.

With the 360 A/V cords - try both HD and non HD setting.  See what that gives you.

When I personally have had issues with Dark Blank Screen - and no RROD error ... it was because the dvd drive was having trouble reading a game disc.  There was a flaw to the game disc - perhaps right on the security checks.

You could try a reset - see what that gives you.  Hold the Synch button down continually thru a power on.

Another thing - try a power on with the Hard Drive off.

Upon further inspection some of the hdmi pins in the system were seriously jacked up. Perhaps I'd been too rough on her over the years. Thanks for the response. I couldn't find the other av cables.  I think it'll probably work using those cables. I may just upgrade to the newer systems anyways.
