Swapping A Benq Dvd Drive With Samsung Drive.
« on: March 08, 2013, 12:43:00 AM »

You have to retrieve the key of the Benq drive and inject it into a firmware dump from the Samsung drive or ixtreme fw and flash that back to the Samsung drive. Alternatively, you can use the RGH exploit to boot Xell and retrieve the Benq key. Search the guides and you will find the info on the methods. Good luck!

Eject the drive and then push the tray in half way and hold it there. Then turn the power off and back on while still holding it in place. The drive should now be in mode b and be detected by the flashing app.

you can not do what you are trying to do, it simply doesn't work.  the above posters don't have a clue whats going on, don't even waste your time reading their post.  you need to replace your drive with another benq, they are cheap.

Everyone ....

If you just go back to his original post - His problem on the 360 his friend gave him is: Open Tray Error

He could try POT adjustment .... or just replace the optic in that particular dvd drive.

Less work than the other suggestions and more affordable.

That's what I would do before spoofing another drive other

pot tweaks don't work, spoofing doesn't work.  sometimes changing the laser works, but is more work than replacing the drive and also usually results in still having to change the drive a week later.  laser - $10, drive - $20.  if the later option is unaffordable, not being able to play video games is not his problem.

if u have another benq then try it out, just be sure to swap out the pcb in them or u have to dump the firmware from the old drive and write it to the new drive using junglelfasher other wise u turn your gaming console into a dvd player.

I still say replace internal parts on that original Benq.

Replace the optic, the spindle motor and the worm motor.  Or any combo of the three.

I bet that I could get it going again.  Not bragging - just saying that with confidence.  I have a good chunk of experience with dvd drive repair.

The trouble with replacement optics is:  sometimes people get used optics - thinking that they are new.  But they are used.  It's called vendors peddling crap.

But ... if you want to go the route with JungleFlasher; iateshaggy is right.  You want to swap a Benq with another Benq or a Lite On.  That's just smarter and safer.  Just write the old drive key into the new drive.

But ... I still say replace the hardware parts

Open Tray Error is really a breeze to correct

I would like to add that, most commonly the tray issue on BENQ and SAMSUNG drives is simply fixed by replacing the rubber band that moves the tray's gear. Some times instead replacing, you can use window glass cleaner with hot water to restore the shape of the rubber in circle.

You can only use the same original type drive in the console, no way around it unless you are JTAG/RGH.

If you use another drive type you will have problems with AP25/XGD3 games.  You will have issues at dashboard updates.  If you have open tray do as others suggest, replace the laser, they are only like $6 shipped on ebay.  Take off the anti static solder dab on the laser before reassembling.  If it has tray eject problems, replace the little rubber band around the gears in the front of the drive.

The original will live on for a long time yet. I think this is mostly due to XBMC and emulators. I have 3 that have had hundreds, thousands of hours of video played on them but tens of hours of gaming.  laugh.gif
