I have a 250gb slim from 09, quit reading disks, opened it up to see what was going on and it, sucks the game in spins it once the laser blinks a few times and quits.

Its not the worm gear as the laser wll more back to its original position when manually moved
The spindle motor seems to spin freely as it spins it a few times initially
the laser is bright but I am guessing its probably lies here

The problem is I have had this problem before with a regular non slim 360 and I swapped out the full drive - the    pcb, and the problem still persisted. Don't want to run into the same problem as that, Its the head of our electronics engineering department so I want to get this sorted.

I have seen this same problem with a phat and replaced the laser with a known working one and it did the same thing. I have also read this happening with slims (the replacement of the laser) not changing anything. I just don't want to spend his money and that not be the problem. I am not saying your wrong I just want to make sure before I proceed.

The way the guy make his phat work is shook it violently as the disk made its 2 or so rotations and eventually it would work, with my new laser or his old either one had the same characteristics. I know ghetto but it wasn't me doing it, so I didn't mind.

Bump anyone thing pot tweak would help? Or had this problem and pot tweaked and it helped?? what the hell do people do when they have this problem.

Even if he RGH's it  .... won't he still need a lens ?

If he wants to Extract his dvd 360 games to a Hard Drive.

I still say replace the optic, but also check on the other devices in the drive.

With Slim optics for the Lite On 16d - 4ds  .... you have to be real careful.  First buy a guarantied new one.
Second - you have to match Two sets of part numbers on those.

So make sure of which one you have.  And match it precisely.

Slim Lite ON lasers have been dying early.  I have replaced 3 for customers.  Where as the Laser in my Phat is still the original.  Something in the laser assembly construction has gotten cheaper

I tweaked it down to 1.8k in steps of .2k at a time, and it never even thought about reading the disk. I gave it back to him and offered a free phat 360 for his son for the trouble. I got a few for free, so I figured I would pass it on.
