Missing Cap On My Falcon Mobo
« on: December 14, 2012, 01:29:00 PM »

If it were mine ... I'd replace it  - the capacitor.  But for me that's pretty easy.  Have spares all over the place.

The contacts look like they are intact.

But you can try turning it on.  Won't hurt anything.  It will either start up normal or display error.  One of the two.

Online sites like:  Digikey, Mouser, Sparkfun and Ebay.

That capacitor is:  ceramic, surface mount, probably 50 volt rating
.... its farad level will be either pico or nano farad  -  somewhat determined by color.  And it will be of certain package size.  Could be 1206 or 1210

I could potentially send you a couple

But if you have no experience surface mount soldering - this is going to handicap you

And a soldering iron not up to par can ruin those contact pads.  Soldering iron not hot enough tends to stick to sites - then when you lift iron away; you end up pulling off pads

Never bridge connections where a Capacitor was installed, or any component for that matter.

It's fine with it missing.

I wouldn't bridge.

A bridge is like having a fuse, a link or a 0 ohm resistor.  An immediate thru.

That capacitor is a filter of sorts.  Decoupling, I think.  Your choices really are: replace it or don't

The console may work with only 1 missing.  You just have to try and see
