Hello,

I applied a RROD fix to my Xbox 360. Now I get 2 red lights instead of 3 lights when I start the Xbox. 2 lights should be overheating but I can't imagine that the Xbox overheats in a couple of seconds. Also, if I start the Xbox without the video cable connected I get 4 lights, as it should be. This makes me believe I have at least made it better! I have done this fix before with good result so I'm no hardware newb smile.gif

What should I do now? Does anyone know what the problem might be now?

Thanks in advance!

Regards

Your heatsinks are not making good contact with the chips, for some reason. It's difficult for me to tell you what exactly happened. There are so many RROD "fixes," that it could be a number of things.

The most common things to check:

No/not enough thermal paste.

If you don't have the chip face completely covered with thermal paste, the heat will not transfer from the chip to the heatsink.

Too much thermal paste.

There are microscopic bumps and pocks on the heatsink surface. Thermal paste is used to fill those holes, not insulate. Too much rarely causes 2 rings, but it's a bad habit anyway. Thin, full coverage is key for successful thermal paste use!

Large gouges, scrapes or damage to the bottom surface of the heatsinks.

If there is any spot of the chip surface not touching the heatsink, it will give the instant 2 rings. If you have any deep scratches or gouges, sand the bottom surface of the heatsink until it's smooth and even again. If the damage is too deep, you may have to replace the heatsink.

If you reused the Xclamps, make sure all four legs are snapped tight and that none of the clip posts have loosened up.

If you replaced the Xclamps with bolts and washers, too many washers on the top side of the motherboard can keep the heatsinks from seating down completely.

If you used a shim, it could be too thick, not allowing proper seating.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head without seeing it myself.

Good Luck!

Oh, and for you other guys, everything can be fixed. It just depends on what lengths we are prepared to go to fix them! wink.gif

As for any large purchase, the first step carbon rims in buying a bicycle is to figure out what kind you are looking for.
Here are the various types of bicycles—including the racing bike, touring bike, mountain bike, hybrids,
and tandems. Be sure you understand what each bike offerschinese bike frames  so you can decide what bike is best for you.
Do not underestimate the importance of getting the right bike for your needs.

Think about what you'd like to do with  the bike. Will it be strictly for exercise and recreation?

If you are shopping for your first bike and don't know exactly what sort of biking activity you'll enjoy most,
it's best to get a versatile bike, yishun bike shop
such as a hybrid, that is suited for a number of different kinds of riding.
Remember though, while hybrids are good for general use, their middle-of-the-road design means
they won't be as well-suited for any one purpose as a bike designed specifically for that type of riding.
For instance, hybrid wheels are apt to warp if subjected to the rigors of the trail.
For that reason, many riders find mountain bikes even more versatile than hybrids.
