General Mod Assistance / Recommendations.
« on: October 29, 2012, 01:49:00 PM »

//Fingers crossed, hopefully this is the right forum, apologies if not.

I've been out of modding for years, and I'd like to mod a 360 console.  I'm seeing so much new terminology that I don't even know where to start.

I hear the jtag method is outdated and that I should be looking into a reset glitch hack or something to that effect.

So if I were to purchase a new slim console, are there any pitfalls I need to watch out for?  If I go with the reset glitch hack method, what are the most recommended chips for the process?

Thanks in advance.

Unless you find an older console, you won't be able to RGH or mod the dvd drive currently.

I don't quite agree with that.  But won't heavily argue with you.

I think you could do a Rev C  version 2 install of a CoolRunner on a new Slim.

And dvd drive modding shouldn't be an issue either.  Might have to install an Unlock Switch or buy a TX replacement Logic board.

I have an one of the Halo 3 LE consoles which I could use. I don't think it's had a dashboard update in over a year.  Even though I could use that I'd prefer not to since it's noisy and only has the 20 GB HDD.

If something can be done with a slim is there a reasonable way of knowing model type on the back (before taking it apart) if I were to looking into picking up a used console over a new one?

How much of a gamble is the Slim / attempting the CoolRunner method?

Thanks for the help / patience.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

If you go with teh slim, it's not really a gamble for RGh'ing it. It should be the same as a phat, unless you have a corona v3 slim. Those are still new as they have a samsung nand chip.

But it's the same odds of success for rgh'able slims and phats(zephyr excluded) on dashboard below 14717. Then there's the phats updated to 14717 and beyong, which seems not to work properly on RGH1 or RGH2. These are the falcons btw.

Ok, so if I follow correctly.

If I were to pick up a used slim. I need to make sure that it isn't a samsung chip.   If that pans out then I should be able to use a 'CoolRunner' as wilgo mentioned.

I also need to watch for the dashboard, is there a particular date associated with 14717.  Is there a particular date associated with that?  A used slim might run the risk of someone having downloaded that, but is that likely to be included on brand new slims?

Thanks. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yes, i'ts likely that the dash is updated to 14717-14719(eliminates stability of RGH2 on phat Falcons)15574 and beyond(kills RGH1 and RGH2) on any console.

Thanks,

Given the risk of the new systems, I think I'll gamble with the Halo LE, I found a chart to check the type.  It's Zephyr, so barring no dashboard hiccups which didn't seem to matter for the RGH I think I'll be in the clear.  Now I just need to assemble stuff I need.

All of the help has been highly appreciated.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

those old halo ed. phats were garbage.  if you are going used, make sure it is a jasper or newer other wise you are just buying a rrod.

Thanks for the tip, I figure its a risk regardless, but since I already have the system and it isn't in use it'd save me a few bucks to experiment on it vs buying another used and not know which model I'm getting.
