Poweron Issue After Xclamp Fix
« on: September 21, 2011, 09:29:00 AM »

Hello i'm looking at a buddies xbox 360 elite and he seems to having problems powering it on after the xclamp fix and applying arctic silver.

Here are the symptoms:
When the power brick is plugged in it gives a orange light but as soon as the power button is pushed the power
brick shows a red light.

I have a voltmeter and clampmeter if needed

OK from my experience the Brick would be at fault here ... to rule it out try another brick ... If that doesn't work something is pulling too much from the brick and it is a safety to not fry anything .... go backwards from opening up the case ... it could be as simple as a plug plugged in backwards .. Good Luck  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I forgot to add that we brought the brick to gamestop to test and the bricks light turned green on another xbox

Soooo have you disassembled the unit and checked all plugs ? Made sure everything is hooked up right ? Did you apply enough paste to the chips ? If you didn't I would expect a 3 red light deal ... anymore info ?

Thinking back to my early days of modding ..... I'll bet you have a pinched or cut wire under the DVD-Rom ... start there ...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The xbox is disassembled right in front of me theres no pinched/cut wires. The xbox won't get enough power to flash any RLOD the brick immediately goes to red when I hit the power button.  I'm thinking that he shorted the xbox hence why I was stating that I have voltmeters to test regulators/mosfets/paths.

Unplug the wires from the DVDRom ( from the main board ) power it up with them disconnected ... see if you get anything with it outta the picture

Also check the fan closely ... is it still functioning ? Or not powering at all ... do the blades spin freely ?

The problem is the "xclamp fix" doesn't fix anything, it just makes it worse.

how is he gonna get a secondary code when his 360 won't turn on.  his problem is he probably created a short by over torquing the heatsink to the point of contacting a component, unless he coincidentally has a jacked up usb that finally shorted when he started tinkering with the case.
