first figure out the error code. probably gpu needs reflowed

turn it on hold sync and mash the eject button. should show 1,2,3, or 4 lights.
continue to hold sync and hit eject again,
and again,
and then one more time,

say the first lights are 4
second is 4
third is 1
and 4th is 2

4 lights-means 0
3 lights-means 3
2 lights-means 2
1 light- means 1

so it would be 4,4,1,2 which means 0012. and which is gpu problems..

every red ring has a specific error code. if you  can get the code, you can tell exactly whats wrong with it. yes the xclamp replacement might fix it, but not for long. the gpu and h(ana) needs reflowed probably. in the video below he holds the sync button then presses eject. and it changes.

This is a very tricky error but usually is a GPU problem anyway. So yes you should reflow/reball GPU to see if it resolve the issue.

For 0020 try the stuff listed here http://xbox-experts....rcode/E08/0020/

1)If you worked on the mainboard recently(soldered or so) remove these wires because you might be drawing too much power from the GPU
Also look for missing/bridged components like capacitors/resistors
2) If you jtagged the console remove wires and resistors, the parallel port can stay as long as no PC is connected.
3) X-Clamp replacement
4) Flush with alcohol, let dry, begin Relow with flux like below
5) Reflow GPU (and RAM if this fails) area
6) Reball the GPU and RAM, for bridged solder

Since your questions are not answered from other, here it is....

You will still be able to play your xbox games and more!
NAND is the chip that contains crucial information about your console, such as DVD Key, Serial Numbers etc.

First try and fix it, then worry about whether or not it's jtaggable.   Stay away from x-clamp kits... they're junk, and your console WILL break again in time.   A proper reflow/reball should do the trick for an 0020 error code.

I am not a JTAG expert, but I remember people have done it. They run ISO images from a HDD. This is how x3key work anyway.
