Oven Reflow, Xbox 360 Won't Boot
« on: June 19, 2011, 08:52:00 PM »

I did an oven reflow following Wilhelm's guide, http://xbox-experts.com/tutorial/the-ultim...eflow-tutorial/ to fix 0013, E74, and 3RROD 0000001 error. I preheated to 180C , put xbox in, then heated to 230C for 5 minutes. let it cool down and reassembled. Plugged it in and it will not turn on. No lights. After like 2 minutes of the plug plugged into the xbox the PSU light turns from orange to Red. I noted that 1 small capacitor C8G5 inbetween the RF and CPU Heatsink is wobbly and the solder under wobbles when moves. What is the problem. Not sure if this helps but I didnt have liquid flux so I mixed some Lead free flux with 91% alcohol.

Ok I think I found the problem. When I plug the Power cord in the xbox the moment I plug it in I hear a sizzle sound from the (H)ANA chip. Its probably from some remaining flux under. How can I fix this?

More than likely your problem is the result of something pretty stupid that people do without thinking. That something is called an oven reflow lol

The oven is a place for food NOT electronics.

If someone tell you to jumb the cliff, you will do? You don't have your own logic? Anyway Wilhelm is a respectful part of this community and his method can work only under specific circumstances and specific method. A slight error and you get a mainboard for decoration use only.

When I plug the power supply in I see a spark at the edge of the NAND and when I try to turn on the xbox. So I guess its fried?

Yes usually when you "cook" something it normally end up "cooked" or in your case "fried"

i think the proper terminology is baked.  fried is when u do a hot oil reflow.

I like "nuked" better for those that do the microwave reflow.

Not that it really matters at this point, but what kind of insulation did you use for your board?  and how much?

Oh, and as for your flux recipe... either use Kester 951 no-clean liquid flux, or don't use any at all.

Oh, and as for your flux recipe... either use Kester 951 no-clean liquid flux, or don't use any at all.

I used 2-3 layers of scotch boxed tape, 2 layers of scotch electrical tape(extra on parts with the sync and DVD buttons) and 2 layers of aluminum foil.

Today I put 91% rubbing alcohol all over the board and under the chips and waited a few hours for it to dry. I plugged the power cable in, the NAND sparked a bit but when I pressed the button the xbox turned on with a 3RROD 00000001 error the one I had before I did the oven reflow. The NAND doesn't spark anymore after that. The xbox turns on but I get that error. When I put the board in the metal case and turn it on. The fans will shut off after like 4 -5 seconds and the PSU light goes from Green to orange and I get 3RROD 0002.

Edit: So now it doesnt get 0002 when in the case. But I still get 3RROD 0000001

Wait, u tried to fix a 0001-power failure with a oven reflow? a 0001 is usually always the mosfets or the PSU. Rarely has it been reflow the xbox, and if u do, never use rubbing alcohol, kester 951 is cheap and should be the no-clean flux u use, if u don't have any with u, don't reflow  it yet until u do. As if u reflow it without it, its likely going to break again.
Here info about your error.
http://xbox-experts.com/errorcode/E01/0001/
I recommend you test all of the MOSFETs first before attempting to do anything if it even has a chance of rebooting again.
And did u test the PSU on a different xbox? to make sure it works fine?

I haven't tested my PSU on my other xbox. it was made in december 2009 and this broken one was made in feburary 2008 so will it work and not hurt my working xbox? I'll check the mosfets to. Im not sure if its exactly 0001 because it goes 000000 like 6 or 7 zeros then a 1

Ok before I checked the mosfets and PSU I desoldered the C8G5 cap that was wobbly now when I turn it on the xbox 360 starts then takes like 10 seconds then does a 3 RROD with a 0022 error.

0022 is this: http://xbox-experts.co.uk/errorcode/E10/0022/

GPU/(H)ANA reflow (and for the love of god, don't put it in the oven!!!), CPU reflow if that doesn't work.

If the box still has the same error code after all that, your GPU is probably dead.
