Yes that is correct but the point I was making is that since the Key was publicly available it was quickly changed thus slowing down the process of making newer custom firmwares. Had it been tightley controlled for better or worse the exploit might still be in use for even the most current firmwares.
A little of topic but I hope Sony learned that suing and attempting to sue many others including some of their customers is not in their best interest....and our join dates are the exact same.
You have summed it up the best it can be in your posts. The people who know the skills and dedication it takes to mod should be compensated for their hard work. Real modders have given up valuable time to learn the basics of computer programming:
Computer Programming I and II
Assembly Language Programming
Discrete Structures
Calculus II
Unix
Programming Languages
Data Structure and Algorithims
Computer Architecture
Software Engineering
Computer Security
Info Storage and Retrieval
Theory of Computation
Compiler Designs
and many more hours and YEARS that go into the dedication of learning how to do what these people are doing.
Whether they have completed the courses and paid the price for a Bachelors or Masters degree in the field of Computer Science or they are self taught, they deserve monetary compensation for their hard work. Do you think that the talented "modders" are doing all this hard work just to simply create a pedagogical environment for people who only want handouts??? The median salary for a Computer Scientist is around $95,000 a year so why on FUCKING EARTH WOULD THEY DO THIS FOR FREE........
I myself think that this price is TOO LOW, and they should charge nothing less than $100. This will weed out the ungrateful people that have no comprehension of the term "Research and Development." Then those same ungrateful people can go back to bitching that the Government Cheese this month tastes like shit.....
