Team Xecuter released more information about the solutions to flash Liteon DG-16D4S 0225/0401 drives. One is no-solder (a PCB replacement), the other is only for professional installers and requires very good soldering skills.

* Liteon DG-16D4S - Unlocked Replacement PCB ($75)
Quote

Do you have a faulty Liteon DG-16D4S DVD in your Xbox 360 ? Are you swapping your drive to another console and are unable to program your firmware due to write protection being enabled ?

Team Xecuter have done it again with these replacement PCB's. Fits all DG-16D4S drive versions and allows you to reprogram your firmware to the board and then to set it to write protect to secure against any accidental firmware corruption / erasing.

- Fits all Liteon DG-16D4S Drives
- Fully compatible with 9504, 0225 and 0401 fw revisions
- Write Protect enable / disable feature
- Simply swap out the old board with your new board and you are good to go !
- Easily programmable using the X360USB PRO or compatible SATA.

Note: All replacement boards are shipped blank. You must program your consoles correct firmware version and drive key.

* Liteon DG-16D4S 0225/0401 Unlock Kit - Pro Installers Only ($20)
Quote

The Liteon DG-16D4S 0225/0401 models are hardware locked so it is impossible to flash them. We are able to offer a kit so that you can replace the main controller IC with this alternative MT1335 version which has the write protect disabled. There are also parts included to enable / disable the write protect manually so as soon as you install your firmware you can lock the drive down so it can't be upgraded by anyone else but you.

Please note this is for professional installers only. Do not buy this or attempt to install it if you are not highly skilled. You will have to remove the old chip and this includes removing all of the resin around the MT1335 chip and then desoldering the chip, and then soldering the new IC with the write protect enable / disable connections also.

I'm gonna ask a question thats probably been answered already.

If these are locked does that mean Microsoft cant do firmware upgrade on them like the new dash? Or is it locked with a code that only Microsoft knows, so that they can unlock, reflash and relock?

it's a hardware lock, the newest lite-on drives can already read xgd3

So with this I understand that the DG-16D4S 9504 hardware is identically to 0225 and 0401 but the 0225 and 0401 is hardware locked.  This means when c4eva release LT firmware to 0225 and 0401 we can flash a 9504 with an LT 0225 or 0401 and will work?

I think this will be cheaper.

After you flash it with the LT+ 2.0, it'll still be write locked wont it, if the firmware has to be as identical as can be to the original. If you buy a 9504 and flash it, you wont be able to flash it again except with one of these kits I would imagine, I could be wrong.

yep they are just like the phat lite-ons all the same hardware just different firmware, wipe the drive and you have a blank drive that can be programmed with any firmware

Damn I was hoping for a pro madders solution that is similar to or a little more complex to the MRA method of the old Lite-on drives. If This is the Chip that needs to be desoldered and then solder the alternative version back on this is going to be a real bitch to do over and over again for different customers and wont be cheap for this much work and may discourage customers.

MT1335

The price for the replacement board seems extremely high considering you can get a new drive below that price. If that's the chip I hope someone eventually finds a loophole to disable write protect without removing and soldering a new chip on.

finally that 862+ will be useful for something!
replacing that chip will be faster than installing any mod - longest part will be getting to PCB and getting epoxy removed.

Time to buy dirt cheap 225 drives, swap the chip, and resell!

Being that not many will want those 0225 drives you should be able to get it at a low cost. Then buy the components needed whole sale and you will still probably sell those drives cheaper than the replacement board they are trying to sell. Ruciz I will probably be buying my replacement drives and boards from people like you who go do it themselves.

A re-flow station would definitely be needed for this and that's a pretty big investment alone for some that only do console mods on the side.

I agree with you that $40-$50 is the magic number and $75 may discourage people from doing the mod all together. I am hoping people like ruciz can make it happen at a good price.
