Xenon Jtag Problem
« on: May 07, 2011, 08:26:00 PM »

Hey everyone:

I'm having trouble jtaging my exploitable xenon xbox 360.  When I try to dump my NAND with a lpt port it says,"can not detect flash controller."  I have double checked all my connections and made sure it was plugged in (but not turned on). Could the problem be my prehistoric computer (windows 98 with intel celeron and 32mb of ram).

Any suggestions to this frustrating problem?

PC should be fine, do you have the av cable plugged in as well ? Which end of the cable are your diodes and are all 7 wires connected, i always have trouble with at least 1 wire not getting a good connection.

I didn't have the av cable in. So I plugged it in and tried it again.  I got the same result so I checked the connections (again). Still it does the same thing.  All my resistors and diodes are soldered directly to the board.  Maybe my swiching diodes are reversed.  Which way are they suppose to go? Also, did you use a diode on pin 11?

Any other suggestions?

I didnt use any swithing diodes on the lpt cable just resistors, diodes i used in the jtag wiring.
Are you sure you have the wires around the right way ? I know when i first did mine i didnt realise that the tut showed the reverse side of the db25 plug and not the front.

No, they are not reversed.  However, I think the lpt is to long (it is 4-5 feet long) so I'm going to shorten it.  Then I will make sure the lpt has all the correct drivers. If it still does not work then I will try different bios modes.

Question:

1. if I were to check the connections with a multimeter, what should they be on the pins on the end of the lpt?

2. Could the solder residue that is left behind after solder is removed from the board possibly be connecting the solder points together?

3. Are you sure you have to have the av plugged in?  All the tutorials I saw only mentioned the power.

Cable is way too long, shorten it to like 30-50cm, AV cable is require from all that i've read- just plugged in to console not TV. Havent used a MM on a console yet.

I shortened the wires to 50 cm (1.6 feet) and change bios to "standard". I tried it on 0278h and on 0378h, but still I get the same result.  Is there something I did wrong or I am missing?  The drivers for the lpt port are installed, but how do I find out if the computer recognizes the xbox or not and what does windows call it?

Don't know much about jtagging but I don't think windows will recognise the 360, kind of like when you flash a drive with the via drives removed. Also does anyone know how to inject xell to get the cpu key using a cygnos 360v2 I have the nand image but I have no idea what to do now because nandpro won't start. I installed the Io driver for it now when I open it the Dos window just flashes and disappears.

Pc wont recognise the 360, it will only detect the flash controller. I'd say the OP has the wiring wrong so i would suggest he starts again and use this wiring diagram as i know it works.

Use the shortest wires you can. Also, try use solid wires (the stuff you use in bread boards). but its not the easiest to move around.

When I jtag'd my Xenon I used the same wiring diagram that hangover posted. It works.  I did not use a switching diode. But I did use the resistors.  You don't need the av cable plugged in at all thats just for flashing DVD firmware.  But you do need the power plugged in and the machine turned off.

I was getting the same problem as you,  I just kept shortening the wires and it finally worked. I think my wires ended up being like 7" long.

yeah that cable was wayyyyyy too long.  you should make the lpt cable extremely short!  Also check and double check your wiring.  Ive had this problem numerous times while jtagging and the problem is always the wiring.  Make sure that you dont have a bad solder joint or a bridged connection.  Sometimes what I do is use a continuity light to check.  You can check by placing the probe on the underside of the board and the other side of the probe at the end of the wire, right after the resistors on the lpt plug.  Try unsoldering and resoldering.  AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE POWER CABLE PLUGGED IN AND GETTING POWER.  It may sound stupid but some people forget about that simple part.  Make sure the light is orange on the brick.  Also, sometimes im unable to read the nand with the av cable plugged in so try it without the cable.

The wires are 7 inches, power is in (xbox is not on though), and av is not in, but still same result.  Is there anything else that needs to be plugged in: DVD drive, fan, power button board?  What does bios need to be on?  standard, bi-directional, etc.  with 378h, 278h, etc. (should there there be an h at the end of these, could the computer be the problem)?  I don't have any solid wire (what kind should I get)?  I think one of the connections may be bridged but I can't find where the solder connects them.  Are some of the connections suppose to be connected on the motherboard from the factory, because I test to see if there is a connection between two of the solder points and it shows up that there is.   However, I can't find where the solder connects them.  Also, is the way that Dodgem4s has his wires in the lpt correct (if so this may be my problem)?  Thank you for the help so far (this is my first jtag).

Any tips or suggestions?
